CIMG0072.JPG CIMG0075.JPG I acquired this coin from a bag of wheats that I bought from a 67 year old retired vietnam veteran. That is all the history that I can provide for this coin. I've been given a few opinions. One being that it looks like someone beat the hell out of it with a hammer. Yes, I could see where someone would think that but knowing that these type of mint erors happen, CIMG0064.JPG I would like to hear what you fine folks have to say, whether I like it or not:) Thank you kindly.

What kind of mint error do you think it could be? I see a seriously beaten coin.

I think it is some type of mint strike error. To put in a specific category, that I don't know.

If you mean hit by a train, no... However, this thing was surely struck by something other than what the OP is hoping.

looks like you got it right when you said "looks like someone beat the hell out of it with a hammer" the one that did this had another beat up coin on top of this one when it was hammered .

The fortunate thing is you have enough steel there to help with the metal value.:)

There are three kinds of people in this world!

    Those that MAKE things happen!

    Those that WATCH things happen!

And those that wonder......................... "What Happened??"

Not to make light of the OP but it's nearly impossible to tell what happened to that coin from those photographs.

Looks to me like it may have had a massive strike error at one point, but then yes, it sat in the fast lane afterwards for quite some time. Depending on the date and mint, even before the demolition, not much rarity or worth to it anyway, other than some interesting history at best.
