New notes recently acquired and don't know more than the obvious about them

    Ok folks,

I have just acquired about 10 notes or so of some older paper money. I am curious to value, rarity, history, etc on a few of them. A rough ball park value would be much appreciated, I don't know squat about pricing paper money or much of anything else about it. I don't plan on selling these but I would like to know what I should write down in my little folder if I ever do decide to part ways with any of them.

    Ok here they are.

First up is a fairly straightforward State of NC 1863 $3 note

Next is a South Carolina Railroad $1 Fare Ticket

The next is a Valley Bank of Maryland $5 note

Last one for now is from The Bank of Commerce at New Bern (North Carolina) $5 note (has a few pin holes near the center, about 3-4)

    Thanks for any info!

Your best bet is to search out these notes in Completed Auctions on eBay. That will give you a good sense of the going prices. The Valley Bank is fairly common -- maybe $25 in VG condition -- and the SC Railroad shows up often as well. The SCRR looks to be in nice shape, it might bring $50. The other two you can check in the Obsolete Currency section:

    Are they hand cut?

I would assume so. They look that way to me anyway.
