After ABNCo acquired Homer Lee Banknote in the 1880s they began using the multicolour printing techniques that the latter had employed on Latin American notes: Try and find another note from anywhere with an American 4-4-0 locomotive on the reverse of the note while the Roman Colosseum is on the front of the note! The interesting thing about transportation on notes is that it is usually combined with my interests - beauties on banknotes!
Truck: Truck and a ship: One of the best things about African notes is they are colourful, and depict economic activity.
Hong Kong being important as a world trading port you would expect to see ships on it's various notes. Old of course, but also newer:
Great topic. Many nations feature transportation themes in order to highlight their modern infrastructure, including airplanes, airports, harbours, etc. But some are just whimsical, such as France's 50 franc "Little Prince", or Gibraltar's 5 Pound tram to the top of "The Rock".
Gregg, your notes, as usual, are very interesting. Do you have a pick number for the the Chinese Bank of Communications one yuan note?
The number listed for the China note in my Krause World Paper Money Catalog is 116(m). Do they use Pick numbers?
Hmmm... How about spacecraft on notes? Here's the current polymer $5 Canadian note, featuring the mobile servicing system (Canadarm, as it's known in Canada) that's attached to the International Space Station. The current $50 also shows an icebreaker / arctic research vessel, and the $10 features a train called "The Canadian" rolling through the Rockies. But I think the spacecraft is pretty cool.....
