After the US Mint screwed the pooch on this coin by releasing it at a Major Coin Show that most of their regular customers did not or could not attend, I don't think I'll ever believe a word that their fulfillment center OR their public spokesperson ever says again! They've lied, deceived, mislead and quite frankly been a complete embarrassment compared to what the US Mint "used" to be. Here is what I think is actually occurring: Their initial production was fraught with problems, they've sold all of those out and now, are hesitant to resume production since other items have now come onto the production schedule which are easier to manufacture. I would be surprised to have any of my coins before the end of summer.
I just received and filled out a customer satisfaction survey for the US Mint. It focused on your most recent order received, but I had a chance to give some unsolicited feedback about the HOF coins in the open-ended sections. A little off topic, but had to let them know that many people are not happy with them.
It kept moving out by one or two days at a time, but for the longest time it was locked at 6/30 until it changed to "in stock and reserved" about a week ago.
That gives me hope. My shipping dates had been 07/14 for quite some time and then moved to 06/30, as well.
Mine have been stuck at 6/30 for most of the time. I did place my order shortly before the cut-off for the gold though, so I'm just glad I'm getting mine.
The following was posted in a thread over on the CU Forums: "**** BREAKING NEWS TO ALL OF OUR MESSAGE BOARD MEMBERS ****The U.S. Mint (Booth #826) will be bringing a large amount of clad Hall of Fame baseball coins to sell at our June 5-7 Long Beach Expo. Come to our show to purchase and receive these breathtaking coins. There will be a limited number of coins, so first come first serve. My Best Regards,Corbin "
I hope they only mean CLADs or coins that were returned. If they mean anything else they are going to make a LOT of customers angry. All those coins should be sent to customers who ordered when they first went on sale.
That's good to know. My 42927xxx hit my credit card a week ago but still shows "In stock and reserved" this morning.
Update: checked again and my order 42927xxx, which hit my credit card on the 28th, was shipped today, June 3rd.
Exactly - push those losers on the people now... don't be selling the ones that already sold out and should be shipping to those of us who ordered months ago, or even worse, don't be minting extras....
OK has the bottom fallen out yet? I'm so disgusted with the mint I will not order from them just waiting till the secondary market gets down to a realistic price on the uncirculated half dollar.
No, the bottom has not fallen. It's dipped on the 69's, but not really falling. Looks to me that few people care about the clads, so those probably will fall. The silver and gold, hard to say.
I'm glad that I flipped my half dollars early. I wonder how long the mint will continue to make the half dollars available. They've only sold just over half of the limit so far.
Aren't these like any other commemorative the mint issues? Usually they're available for the full year or until they sell out. At least I haven't heard anything different about these.
The aftermarket price will be effected by how many they sell. If they sell the whole 400K, the aftermarket price will suffer. If they were to stop sales before a sell-out, the aftermarket price will be higher, most likely lower than it has been or is now, but still higher than original mint price.
If it's anything like the rest of the series price of the slabbed MS69's in the end will be less than the grading costs probably. Any way that's been my luck with them. If your not lucky enough to get a MS70 you never recover your costs.
