A little disappointed about not picking up some higher grade large cents at the show yesterday, I turned to eBay to see if I could snag something. I sniped this one at the last minute, 1838 Large Cent in possibly BU. I am not seeing any obvious issues with it. Thoughts? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1838-Young-...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
I'm thinking the same , high AU probably 58 , but with the luster it might market grade in the low MS . Sure is a nice looking coin , you picked a beauty .
Thanks, I thought the price was pretty fair for this one, even though 1838 is one of the most common years for the higher grade stuff for some reason.
Didn't they find a barrel full of large cents a long time ago , accounting for most of the higher end coins .
looks to be an EAC-45 to EAC-50. Hard to tell without having the coin in hand. Nice looking coin, probably would TPG grade AU-58 at a minimum, and if the TPG's overlooked the few very minor rim nicks, perhaps a low MS grading. Nice coin and the price you paid seems reasonable.
Ebay photo. Non cent new coin. Au50? But at least Ef 45.my2c View attachment 333231 View attachment 333232
Jello, pictures don't seem to be showing up in your post. The coin I got looks nice, I would think high AU but then again it is very difficult to grade by pictures. Can't wait to get it in-hand.
