I named this the Raisin Bran Lot because mathematically , every time I scooped out a handful of coins, there was at least one raisin, AKA wheat cent in it. It worked out to be 1 wheat cent every 60 coins, my best ratio ever on any lot. That would have been enough to have me jumping for joy, but there are more coins found worth mentioning. This lot of coins was purchased from a local deli. I was on my way to a park when I decided to stop in to see if they had any coins. I was greeted with a nearly full 5 gallon bucket of cents, plus the owner has smaller buckets and cigar boxes full of nickels that I will be returning for soon. This lot was purchased in a two batches, an $80 batch which I’ve post about before, and then a $127 batch the following week. Here is the result of what was found. 344 - Wheat Cents: 1910-1958. Including a 1928s (1 of 12 coins I needed) 200 of these coins were in old coin roll wrappers. There didn’t seem to be a lot of new scratches/wear on these coins, so my guess is they were wrapped for awhile. A gentlemen’s name Bob was on two of them. They didn’t have a funky smell to them, but one roll did have a lot more corrosion on the rim of the coins compared to the other three rolls. 32 - Canadian Cents 1 – 1901 Indian Head Cent 1 – 1986s Proof: Nice toning with very little wear 33 – 2009 cents Approx. 20 – S mint Memorials 4 – British Pennies 1 – Bahama Cent Variety Cents, Coppercoins.com die listings 1 – 1972p 1do-002 1 – 1984p 1do-007 1 – 1998 WAM 2 – 2000 WAM 1 – 2006p 1do-001 1 – 2006p 1do-003 1 – 2006p 1do-005 1 – 2006p 1do-022 1 – 2011p 1do-004 Normally I find one variety for every $100-$150 searched, so to find and confirm ten coins in a single $207 lot, is amazing to me. Other Possible Coins 2 – 1983p DDO. Looks like the 1983p 1do-013, but the marker photos do not match, and the doubling on S in TRUST is slightly different. Not a dramatic doubling, but I did set the coins aside to research it later. 1 – 2011 DDO. The doubling of LIBERTY seems to be identical to the 2011p 1do-009, but it can’t be that die set because the die crack/chip on the reverse is in a different location. I believe this coin could be a new discovery. I will post more pics later, but here is the 1972p 1do-002 and 1984p 1do-007.
This is a collector after my own heart . . . I wish I still had the time and energy to collect this way. KUDOS ! ! !
coingeek, alot of delis in this area through their cents in a bucket under the register in hopes of some day bring it to the bank. Alot do but some dont. I have 8 regular stops in my area now. Most of my luck is from the delis rather than the bank.
