Why are they so expensive?

    Ya, but then you have to pay taxes on it since it looks like you got them for free. So when you sale you really get screwed.

    Coins with an interesting story go for a lot more usually and appreciate more than some that just sat in a bank vault somewhere.

    For $10 a piece you can buy shipwreck 1800's coins with a much more interesting story.

    Like was said, the label. I would pay a premium on a label that said Holmes or Newcomb or Greene...one of the great collectors. But not for a hoard found by someone.
