I recently bought a lot of "unopened" '64 proof sets and found this

This is the best pic I could provide, it's still in its cello wrap, but I think it shows the hair and the incomplete "I" pretty well. Again, not the best pic, but any ideas as to what it might grade?

That one's a first for me. I have looked at hundreds of thousands of Proof sets in original packaging over the years, but this the first time I ever saw one of the coins still in that packaging with a fingerprint on it. I am truly surprised.

And if those light scratches and hairlines are on the coin, coupled with that print I could not grade it higher than 63/64.

The one that runs across his neck and cheek.

I see what looks like one on Kennedy's neck...but it could just be on the packaging too.

I don't think that is a fingerprint. I think you are seeing this..

Doug, I don't think that's a fingerprint. Those striations are common on a lot of Kennedy's. We just had a thread about this a couple weeks ago.

Finger print or not, if most of the marks are on the coin and not the packaging, that appears to be one nicked up Kennedy, that couldn't grade more than 63/64.

The fingerprint and other marks are on the cello. The coin appears, to me, to have no marks.

It's going to NGC tomorrow. I'll post the results when it comes back.

I tend to think those marks are not on the coin at all..

Most, if not all, of the marks are on the cello wrapper. In hand, the coin looks very clean.

Ah you opened it! I could not keep it in the Cello at all.

No, I didn't open it. The marks move when the coin moves within the cello. I'm afraid to open it as I'd probably mess it up.

I would open it and transfer it, but that is just me. You can not 'see' it until it is opened. I mean you have an AH, you know it so do not sweat it, just be careful.

I would open it and put it in a 2x2 flip. You will be surprised how much more pristine the coin looks outside the cello. The mirrors are deeper and if it is a cameo, it will show much better.
