3946 is flying right and 3947 is advancing right but is listed only for year 6. To me this is a situation where catalogs cause problems. I don't see flying in the coins online listed as flying so I'd call this one a 3946 year 5 obverse B. There is no flying Nike listed for year six and no advancing for all the other years. Someone needs to show a 3947 that convinces me that this is a necessary distinction.
Great lot of coins Whiz! Congrats! Really like the Republic / Macedonian sheild! I would be keeping that one if it was me.
Thanks for the kind words. I have a couple more left to ID. Some I may need some help on so keep an eye out! Unfortunately it isn't a holiday today in Canada (ours was last week) so I am at work all day.
Bing... I was looking at this thread on my work computer and I see the red you are talking about. I wonder if my colours are off on my laptop at home.
I have seen some coins colored very "red". In fact I own a couple. I believe these are referred to as Syrian Red because of the red hue in the sand in parts of Syria. Here is a Gallienus with Syrian Red: GALLIENUS Antoninianus OBVERSE: IMP GALLIENVS AVG - Radiate head right. REVERSE: PAX AETERNA - Pax standing left, holding branch and scepter Struck at Rome, 260-8 AD 3.2g, 20mm RIC 252, C 716 The color on your coin is not as deep a red, but it probably did pick up on the red colored minerals in the ground where it laid for so many years.
I do need some help with this Rhodian drachm. I am not too sure where to begin looking or what is even on the reverse.
It is most likely: Ashton 239 Caria, Islands off, Rhodes AR Drachm. ca 40 BC-25 AD. Three-quarter facing radiate head of Helios, head turned slightly right / Open rose; aphlaston below, magistrate name written around the rose. Ashton 239
Awesome Rhodes coin, W-Bang!! (very cool) ....... apparently, I'm a huge fan of colourful-crud!! => curious? ... TIF cleaned a colourful-crud Pontos a couple of days ago (are you going to try and de-crud your new toy?) ... beautiful, either way (conrats)
Not yet. I am happy to stay I received the call for a full time job offer yesterday so we went out an celebrated.
I am definitely thinking about it. There are some cleaning scratches on the crud already so I am curious if I removed the crud would the cleaning scratches go all the way down to the metal beneath.
It isn't the dream job but it is a step in the right direction. It is a huge sigh of relief though. I don't have to worry nearly as much that my student loans are being paid. I am in a good position for the future.
