I heard on the news that the congress wants to make a Blair commemorative. Does anyone have details on this?

The idea of making a gold medal is being considered - not a commem coin.

Why would anyone want to commemorate Blair? Isn't he British?

Yes he is British - the current Prime Minister. It is our governments way of saying thanks for his help in the Iraq war.

As far as I know, there will be no such coin. Maybe the rumor is based on the plan to give Mr Blair the Congressional Gold Medal. See for example http://www.baker.house.gov/News/blair_gold.htm

If passed, the resolution would also mark the second time Congress has given the gold medal to a British Prime Minister, following the award to Winston Churchill in May 1969, a fact which, according to Baker, is “significant and entirely fitting."
