http://www.marketwatch.com/story/google-buy-ebay-a-home-run-says-analyst-2014-03-17 I did not see that coming! I know they are after PayPal because their own payment system went nowhere, but I'd hate to see them screw up eBay and I think they would. If you think ebay can be hard to deal with, you'd flip over Google. They want as little customer service as possible! I hope that's just noise without substance.
I still don't. The analyst makes some good points -- that's kind of what analysts do -- but it seems like random speculation to me.
Probably just noise, yes. That article was published about two months ago, and I think that, if there was any "substance" behind it, we would have read more about such plans by now. Interestingly, Google now allows users in twelve countries to use PayPal for certain Play Store payments. But that is quite the same as taking eBay over ... Christian
Careful what you wish for. Google often writes buggy beta code and leaves it there for a long, long time and their intention is to have as little customer service as possible. They could be very, very bad.
Don't think Google will spend $40 or $50 billion and let eBay go in the ditch. Plus, there's bound to be at least one top Google exec who's gotten extremely POOR service out of eBay. The real key is reining in eBay from trying to be a clueless Amazon-clone.
