Any Idea's on the grade/value of this piece? And the pics don't do it justice, on the obverse there's some brown amber toning on the right side, and on the reverse there is some bluish icy toning with amber yellow surrounding it

Is that a lamination or damage of the reverse?

how can you tell it's cleaned and what kind of value would you put on it?

    EDIT: Is it the hairlines?

If its damaged, it would be less...But either way a good buy!

I would never pay that much. Slabbed VF30 CBHs from that year start at around $100, eBay BIN price!

Sorry, but I don't think it was such a good deal.

    Cool lamination & Awesome toning!
Direct sunlight always exaggerates light scuffs and dulls toning. Even when it's filtered by a window screen :)
I see the hairlines that everyone is seeing, but under that lighting you would be hard pressed to find a coin that won't display similar hairlines. It was probably cleaned at some point, but the level of nice rich toning on that piece might very well render it market acceptable. I'd take another set of shots with more filtered light for the coin to be seen in it's best light so to speak!

I don't know these coins, but that rim looks to be in remarkable shape, compared to the face. Is that normal for this design? I would think some of the detail on the rim would be removed with it.

Moral of the story is that anything will only be worth what somebody is willing to pay I guess. :)

If he is happy with it, that is all that matters.
