Kind of like Fukishima, that had the back up pumps but they were in the basement for cost savings....

When the water runs 2 feet deep in the street, there are no pumps in the world that can handle that, or make the slightest difference in the outcome. And storm sewers in Florida's coastal towns, typical elevation 6 feet -- where do they empty?

The town of Clearwater is atypical; it stands on a bluff some 40+ feet above the Gulf. But parts of Clearwater would still flood, along the numerous streams that empty into the bay. I lived there in the 1950s.

FYI, unless the bibles have special family significance don't bother. Old bibles aren't worth anything because every US family has multiple old bibles. Supply far outstrips demand.

If you decide to discard the bibles, you can still remove the pages that contain personal notes or records or genealogies. Pages can be washed, dried, and pressed flat again, unless the ink is not permanent (and runs). Then those pages can be put into picture frames and displayed in a way you never could when they were bound into the bibles.

The point of asking "where?" probably had more to do with salt water vs. fresh water, which requires different techniques -- not idle curiosity.

I understand but I also understand that hiking is a form of exercise, and excercise is very good for you.

The question was already answered by reddrum previous page , so the answer here was not needed. It might be a good idea if it was sarcasm or being funny, to so indicate with either a emoticon or [joke] or something. If a chain of problem posts developed , you would probably be indicated as the cause. As it was some thought it was over the line.

    Thanks Jim

I probably shouldn't share the secret, but this is part of my retirement plan. (I just haven't actually acted on it yet)

Buy cheap land that is 30 feet above sea level, 20+ miles inland, and near a 10-20 foot downward slope towards the ocean. Wait for the sea levels to rise. Sell newly beachfront property for huge profit! :D

Remember that old George Strait song "Ocean Front Property" where he sings about selling ocean front property in Arizona? Well, the lowest elevation in Arizona is near Yuma and is only 70 feet above sea level, so it might not be too far fetched after all.

I believe you can make a loss claim on your taxes as well to help offset those.
