I have been looking for a nice example of the 1908 Wells Fargo Nevada saint and I came across this one, it has most of my requirements OGH, Wellsfargo Nevada label, it is a 66 but to me at least its not a particularly nice to look at opinions would be appreciated.
I need to see other angles as the black splotches could be the lighting. For this coin, I would probably pay no more than $3,500.
I have no vested interest in selling this coin, but if you trust my judgment, I think you'll like this coin MUCH better in person.
I totally agree. In this case I believe that the lighting is throwing things off. Better lighting please.
Yes, but please do not be in a rush as there will be plenty about and likely you will find one that appeals to YOU & not necessarily us.
They tend to come nice with great luster as here. Heritage APRs look like around 3150 for non cac 66's. I dont think the OGH carries a lot of weight in this instance.
The dark blotches as a result of lighting are somewhat weird. I know GDJMSP has shown before-and-after pics that show a coin dramatically changing depending on the light source and angle. So I'm hesitant to say that the coin in-hand looks different. It might....but I can't say for sure.
Its actually listing for just over 4K, the problems for me is the color is very uneven and this eyes are very disturbing, almost alien like...LOL and a 66 should be allot brighter, so those are my concerns.
Gold coins can develop a hazey film that blocks some of the luster. This photo seems to indicate that this coin has it. You don’t know for sure until you have seen the coin in person. It can be removed, but gets into removing the coin from the slab, restoring it and getting it regraded. And then you will get complaints from collectors who take original surfaces to nth degree. If you don’t like the haze, I would keep looking.
How do you verify an OGH on the PCGS cert verification site? I tried to type that in, no luck. I scanned that barcode, on the computer screen, with my phone. And it came back as: https://www.pcgs.com/cert/02104375. Then I scanned again and it came back as an invalid cert.
No. It’s a whitish thin film that dulls the gold color. The black splotches are something else, most likely copper stains that have turned a very dark brown. Those are likely permanent and usually can’t be fixed.
It won't come back as OGH, to the best of my knowledge. You have to ID it as legit and then track down the holder from the PCGS (or NGC) Hall of Holders archives.
Here is the closest ad I could find with a condition known as "bag rub", but I've never seen a photo where the luster of the fields is completely blocked: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3347273141...jRDxF6YnzegQGZoL2GgF8Tivc=|tkp:Bk9SR_78y9bFYQ I personally search for a coin with flawless lustrous fields, with sharp well defined devices without "bag marks", a condition seldom located!
