There are several pcgs70 baseball hof member hand signed coin selling on ebay The price is over $3950 for cal ripken? do you think it worth to buy ? In my point of view I think it is overpriced. which baseball hall of fame member do you think is the most popular the Cal ripken , Reggie Jackson ,Dennis Ecker, Ernie Banks ,or the new member Frank Thomas?
None. I wouldn't waste my money on one of those. There are Johnny Bench facsimile signatures and many others with the fake signatures on the label. I wonder how many people do NOT read the description saying it is not a real signature.
Some of the PCGS ones ARE real signatures. The NGC ones I've seen are fake. I would pay the most for Cal Ripken andReggie Jackson, just because I've heard of them/know them. Possible Frank Thomas, but less. Don't know the others (don't follow baseball). The early release 70's are trending towards $1,500... so possible a couple extra hundred for the signature holders.
I think someone mentioned that Cal Ripken and Nolan Ryan were both signing these. I would buy either of those, simply because of what those two players represent. Even non-baseball fans probably know either or both of those players.
Cal Ripken is one of the most over rated players in Major League history. He is best known for having the longest games played streak which would never have happened if he did not play all those years for his father. His statistics are slightly above average and in my opinion not a Hall of Fame quality player.
I'd bet that they were all signed with an auto-pen, making them worthless. Not that a real signature would have any value.
I thought we collected coins, not plastic and autographs. If I wanted to collect autographs, I would still be collecting baseball cards.
I don't think it is worth it. First off, these coins are overpriced to begin with and I think over the next couple years we will see a significant decline in their value. Secondly, all these baseball players are still living and their autographs are very common...less than $100 for the most expensive one. So, I don't see the signature adding much value. I also think that such signatures are designed to appeal to non coin collectors. I personally collect both coins and sports memorabilia and I can say that such a piece appeals to neither interest in me. If you want a nice autograph of a baseball player...get one on an official MLB baseball, that's the best medium for a baseball player auto. Leave the coins out of it IMHO.
Just saying sports memorabilia has historically gone hand in hand with autographs of players. When was the last time you saw someone collecting a capped bust half with Reich's signature? We are coin collectors, and this has never included autographs as an extension. Books, yes, knowledge of economics and history of course. But not autographs of sports players. To me, such things are the purview of sports nuts who happen to buy a coin, not really the other way around.
If I had thought about it, I would have added one of these to my HOF auctions. Forgot I had them until now. Might of picked up a few extra dollars.
Now if only you could get Mario Andretti to sign one. Or Hilary Clinton? Don Ameche........I'd pay a ton of money for a Don Ameche signed HOF coin. I know he'd come back from the dead to do it. Billy Mays! Yeah! How much would that one be worth? He'd come back too.
Willard Scott. I'd bet he'd be willing to sign a few. Ya might have to include the Smuckers folks though......
