Back when the state quarters came out I decided to buy a BU roll of each business strike (P and D Mints). I followed through on ALL 50 states (100 rolls). At $10 per roll that was $1000 (plus whatever markup dealers had; probably about another $30). I put together some sets for friends and family. But the rest just sat there gathering dust. I cashed them in yesterday. Added up to about $730. NOW I have more ammo to hunt down some coins I'm interested in. The CENT accumulation is next. Maybe $20-30 worth. No Wheaties.
Any regrets on the cleaning? Does not sound like it. I have been hitting my Washington holes pretty hard lately, including the states. Now just getting last remaining "S" series. Almost done. I know the states are not as sexy as they use to be, but I like completing a set. Congrats on the new funds.
I did the same thing with 12 rolls of the 1999 Canadian Millennium quarters, deposited them. I didn't bother with the 2000 rolls either. It was part of a realization, that common crap is common crap. Before you know it, you have enough for a boat anchor. The 1992 Canadian Provinces sets can still be found in shops for $5, including a nice plastic sleeve that holds the set. Not worth storing.
Still waiting for MFD to come up with one (or more) of my 3 missing IHC's. In the meantime I'm picking at the holes in my Early Commemorative set. And still searching for my missing Braided Hair large cents. We're getting ready to move so I have less time to find coins. Probably close to 2 months before I get seriously back into coins.
Yep. Like I said we're getting close to moving (already packing things up). Don't have the time to fuss with eBay as much as I'd like.
Trust me when I say, you made a smart move as I too collected these by the roll. My offering of a nearly complete series of rolls on ebay went without response a couple of years back and I too ended up taking them to the bank. And those boxes of quarter rolls are very heavy to cart around.
