I've been following this thread and in many instances "liking" BooksB4Coins posts. Here's my reasoning:

What you are discussing are T's & C's of a contract. Even though this is a business to public transaction, what the seller posts in his listing are his Terms and Conditions for sale. IMO, people with integrity negotiate the T's & C's of the sale before executing the transaction. From what you're describing, you would bid on the coin and if you won, you would then make demands of the seller before paying. IMO, you need to negotiate those demands PRIOR to ever placing a bid. IMO, it doesn't matter whether it's a $30 coin or a $300K coin.

Prior to placing a bid, you could contact the seller and ask for better pictures. You could contact the seller and ask him to send the coin to the TPG of your choice for authentication (negotiating how this cost will be recovered). There are a myriad of things you could ask the seller. BUT, you should negotiate the T's&C's prior to ever bidding on the coin.

The coin in the OP is likely a fake. I think most would agree upon that. But, there are risk takers in this world and some might think it's worth the risk. Who am I to say what someone should do with their own money. But, prior to placing a bid, you need to either A) accept the seller's T's&C's as listed or B) negotiate them prior to bidding.

Again with the deflection. This has nothing to do trying to "stand up on [my] hill of moral value", but everything to do with simple common sense and decency. Regardless, and even if I were, you're pointing the moral finger as if due diligence and abiding by an agreement is bad thing.

Can you not acknowledge the fact that it doesn't matter? Be it a $7 coin or a $70k coin, you, as the bidder have the opportunity to contact the seller while the auction is live to work out whatever issues/concerns that you may have PRIOR TO BIDDING, but this doesn't seem to matter because, as you've already made quite clear, your position has nothing to do with safety/security and everything to do with a lame excuse to gain the advantage. The below quote says it all.

Believe it or not, I do understand your point. I well understand the fear of trusting an unknown with such an amount and the desire to grab hold of a once-in-a-lifetime, but there are protections in place, and said fear or the desire for a rip is not a acceptable excuse for the actions you've promoted. Would you ask a cashier for a scratch-off lottery ticket and tell her you'll pay only if it's a winner? Of course not, so why do you think doing essentially the same thing with ebay is okay? Now before you run with the cop out, I know a lottery ticket isn't $70k, but the point still stands.

Because they, as I, believe your estimate for how likely it is real is 0.0001% too high.

Oh what do we have here... Mr Moral High Ground using unacceptable words. Oh the irony!

Good job mods. Don't let this cat fool you from atop of his hill.

What a bizarre way this thread turned out. The past 5 or 6 pages were pretty frivolous and nitpicky.

    (assuming this is sarcastic)

    LOL! Gem of this thread.

That is funny. They think that's what happened despite the listing page clearly displaying "Listing was ended by seller". LOL

You do understand that each time you come out with this nonsense that I am somehow the bad guy for having a spine, what you're really announcing to the board is that you lack one, right?

Yeah... and from quoting you; the irony! Perhaps there is a leniency afforded children. ;)

Is this lameness really the best you can do? For some strange reason I had expected better, but suppose that at this point, grasping at straws is all you've left.

Like people arguing over whether a tornado will hit death valley this month.

No, the thread will stay here with all of its warts. It is easier to remove people from posting , which will happen if the hissy--fit competition continues. Some of you are old timers and know better! Some just like to rock the 'establishment', and some like to stand on the sidelines and egg them on.

It is easy to duel when every one is anonymous , much harder to restrain oneself, but try and be constructive

Thank you! i was wondering when a mod was going to put a stop to this madness. :)

I kept up with the first couple of pages, and then passed on the rest until a member reported it. Moderators can not read every post, so we depend on members to give us a head up when they feel something is not right. Sometimes it is according to the rules, and we let it go, other times we take a position.

Thanks to the member who saw this going the wrong way.

Can I buy the fake coin for $5? After this thread it would be worth it.

Actually I learned some things, even with the bickering. First being, if I "knew" my coins and I saw an opportunity the the FeePlace, would I bid. Sure I would and have for that matter. What I have learned however is there are a lot of people out there with time on their hands and they are much more knowledgeable than I and I would likely loose anyway. I am glad the mods did not stop it when I slipped a IBTL, as I learned...and folks that is why I come here.

    Thanks :)
