Silver Eagle Limited Proof - Is there a difference?

    Hello,

My question is regarding whether or not there is a difference between the regular silver eagle proof and the silver eagle proof that comes in the limited edition silver proof set. I like to buy both the raw coins in OGP and PCGS 70 slabs. When I go to buy the PCGS 70 coins, the regular proof is around $100 and the silver eagle proof from the limited edition silver proof set in PCGS 70 is $1,000+. Is there a difference between these two proofs?

None whatsoever besides what package it's in; once it's out of the package there's no way to prove it's any different than any other ASE.

The limited edition silver proof set is the biggest scam I've ever seen that's still technically legal. There's nothing in there you can't just get by buying a silver proof set + a proof ASE. Save your money.

(If anyone tells you that the "limited edition" proof is worth anymore than a "regular" proof, they're deluding themselves and/or scamming you. There is no difference whatsoever once they're out of the original package. Don't fall for the hype.)

  5. Don't drink the LESPS Kool Aid. Nothing but fancy packaging that naturally appeals to the label collectors.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

NGC doesn't break them out as something special. Apparently PCGS does. It's just hype for more profit. Shame on PCGS.

That is weird. You could argue that as supplied by the mint, the LE has value because it displays all the silver together, but once broken out, what's the point at all (if you even agreed with the first part!)

Great question. There does not appear to be any difference.

    Also Welcome to CoinTalk:cool:

Thank you for all of your replies. I didn't think there was a difference, but seeing the crazy price difference I had to ask. Thank you all.

    ***A side note:
These price differences with the PCGS 70 slabs are also happening with the limited edition silver proof set dime, quarters and half.

Morgandude11 As long as it's Silver, I'm listening

It is a limited edition label on the slab. Limited to how many they can sell in that slab. :)

There is absolutely no difference! All of the proofs are struck at the same time. Some of them take the "high road" and some take the "low road" but they all end up in the same place.

Between the coins, no. People are paying an extra $900 for a paper label.
