The 69s are a loss right now when you consider slabbing costs

I've been seeing MS70 Early release going $200+. Seems like a pretty good risk to grade.

I suppose you could look at it that way. I sent four Clads and four Silvers in to PCGS and didn't even look at the Silvers. When they come back, they are going into a safe deposit box and I may never see them again. My children will inherit them and I think it will be easier for them to deal with slabbed than raw.

I'll be sending the gold when they finally ship from the mint and for the same reasons.

You think the profit margin on the slabbed is going to hold or increase on these in the long term?

If the Mint doesn't start a series of shark jumpers, then the BHOF's will be unique and will increase in price. If we join the world wide trend of painted coins, coins shaped like trees, glow in the dark, song singing, internet connected monstrosities, then the BHOF's and their kin will eventually be seen as a brief and forgettable period in numismatic history. Somebody will collect them, but they won't be worth much.

I also expect that "First Strike, First Pitch, signed by nobody you ever heard of and blessed by an ordained minister" will be equivalent to sample slab collecting now: of interest to some, but of no increased value except to those few.

Duh, eBay. Certified by INB, too.

Thankfully all it takes is a "few" interested to increase the value of something. If you get a few interested buyers on ebay, it could increase the cost a lot. I am wondering what I should do with my 6 coin set though. I have a few listed on ebay, and am leaning on selling everything but the MS70 gold. I might be able to get more for it if I list it now though rather than keep it a few years, but I just like it. Honestly, I think the MS clad is one of the best looking of the set. What's the chance a MS70 early release of that will be worth much one day? Will the fact that it is the cheapest coin, and not selling well, make it worth more one day?

Maybe. Hard for me to say because I am so prejudiced against clad.

I think that the clad will eventually sell out. They'll always hold a premium but less than gold/silver once the hype is over.

    "Few" is a relative term.

I'd agree not to buy them because they may fall back steeply - in fact, almost certainly will. But how far remains to be seen. This is an odd duck, both in terms of shape and because of a base of appeal that extends beyond numismatic collectors and investors.

And that base hasn't been fully developed yet, either. I was talking to a friend today who buys anything baseball related - one of those guys that is always dressed in something with a logo or a name on it - and he had just heard about these very recently. Odds are that he will be wanting to buy - not at $4,000, but maybe a few hundred for silver or clad.

As I opined earlier, the Mint can ruin this by continuing to make more "shark jumpers". But if they abandon that path and don't produce a football shape, a hockey puck, and so on, this could stay very strong.

My ship dates are now 5/18.... Pushed back one day for each day of the week. I conclude that they will make a great Christmas present.

It's gotta be because of that mint box Angelo. Nice presentation on the sellers part. Too bad it's not red oak.........

My 4/8 order just got bumped from a May shipping date to September. Are they trying to tell me "gently", I won't be getting this order?

What I thinks crazy is thinking a label noted 1st or were it was graded counts.
Population # and labels is not what coin collecting is about.. But that's just my 2cents :)
