I have coins with swastikas from ancient India, Siam, Burma, and central asia. It was an extremely prevalent symbol up until the muslim conquests in this area.
It still is in a lot of Asia. To this day the swastika can be seen all over India on billboards, walls, people's motorcycles, key chains, in Hindu temples, etc. It is a shame Westerners often immediately associate the swastika with what occurred 80 years ago when its history goes back thousands of years earlier and has traditionally represented peace, tranquility and harmony.
I initiated this thread and am realizing it is becoming very awkward and is 90 percent uninformative. Whoever is in charge of content, feel free to completely remove this thread. Sorry to anybody for any awkwardness I initiated by starting this thread.
Hey dawg, relax (you seem like a good head) ... I wouldn't sweat the blame too much, nathan ... Cheers, brother
I'm with Steve. Don't worry about it. Things often get pretty tangential around here and if CT only had a sarcasm font, most misunderstandings would be avoided.
No, not everyone thinks you are joking, and neither do I at this point, that is why I took the action I did. If anyone else wants to joke tell me now, it will save my time. Thanks
That was just a reaction to the word "unplug" in doug444's post. And if you look at the screenshot and/or the link in my reply, you'll see the name of this actress is Swastika Mukherjee. Note the first name - which supports the point (mentioned here before) that the word and the symbol are still used in the "original" sense in, say, India today. Also, the Wikipedia article (that others have linked to) explains that even in parts of ancient Europe the swastika was commonly used. This part of that article shows a stater from Corinth. Christian
ironically, the swastika originally meant peace in ancient India. The Hitler chose it from a art class he took for aesthetic reasons.
