NGC and PCGS are third party grading services.

Respect doesn't mean anything in government contracts.

Are you proposing all of the first 100 or so strikes from a die be sent off for grading? In other words, the only way to get your hands on such a coin would be to buy one of the TPG graded "First Strike" coins?

If a person feels compelled to purchase one of every item the mint offers, that's their problem, not mine. They should probably seek professional help or a twelve step program.

Except, the problem is, I don't like what you're recommending. Perhaps I should drum up some support against your petition. Just sayin...

There will be no more new threads concerning this topic. The Op has been notified. Other similar threads will be deleted or merged. Anymore mention of other petition sites will be deleted for several areas of rules.

This is the problem with todays youth......they want it now. In dem dar olden time days we used to save up for what we wanted. We weren't as 'entitled'

  5. Again sorry for the threads, people here disagreed with us and so I changed the petition to see if that would work out. We do have young people among our supporters. What has been shown on this board is that the coin collecting community dislikes young people despite them being the future of the hobby and the people that the US Mint needs to market to. When young people work to put their ideas out there and to have a greater say in the products they buy, all this discussion shows is that forums like this and this hobby is a place where good ideas go to die. This topic is discouraging to the young people who want to be more engaged in this hobby and have a greater say in this hobby. With the disrespect towards young people expressed, no wonder why there aren't enough young people in this hobby.

I do not believe that the coin community dislikes young people. That is a very narrow minded statement based on mainly your interpretations of your threads, and you only signed here on Monday, a very short time interval to read a majority of threads. I certainly realize you know few members, but many are young ( college age or younger), but unless they mention their age, or we meet them at a show, we do not know how old a member is. Many are engaged in all aspects of the hobby from bullion investing to error coins, but since we do not allow political , religious , or world events discussions, you won't see many such threads that many young politicians would like. Moderators are also very sensitive to rules.

We do not even know what your collecting area is, nor your age, nor do we need to know unless you wish, as we respect privacy and rules.

  7. Again we apologize for any rule violations. But the replies about young people made in this thread are surely discouraging.

Josh's Coins is an young person and I don't see him being discouraged by this discourse. Detecto too is a young collector who offered his opine on why the mint would not do as you ask. There are many fine young collectors on this forum, most of whom could give a hoot about modern mint products contrary to this old fuddy duddy (me). You didn't see them check in because the subject heading is not what they enjoy collecting. The youth engaged in this coin community (forum) is alive and well..........

  10. Well don't you feel this would come off the wrong way to some: This is the problem with todays youth......they want it now. In dem dar olden time days we used to save up for what we wanted. We weren't as 'entitled'

In other words grasshopper. You earn it.

Did you really think a wet behind the ears guy was going to come to this site and take the place by storm?

  13. No, but I did not expect everyone to come crashing down on us either.

Young people want to change the world, which is fine...it's what young people do. But I would suggest studying it first. Real numismatics is about the art, science, and history of coinage, and there is plenty of it available to the collector of lesser means. In fact, a numismatist doesn't need to own any coins at all.

Petitions for change can be important and meaningful, but this one seems unlikely to be realized. I would suggest engaging in numismatics. You'll find it far more satisfying than pining away for things you can't have at the moment.

Volcano, we're not here to destroy or destruct. We're here to help. Come up with a better argument for what it is you want and others will support you my friend.........

  17. Are you referring to us? If so that's why we redid the petition, but forum moderation took it down. We're more than willing to redo the petition to show everyone that with everyone's support something can get done. Not only that but it would show the greater say that collector's would have on the mint's products.

  18. We were also looking at doing a petition to get the US Mint to do other things too, but we wanted to see how this panned out

First off I`d like to welcome Vocalcoincollectors to the wolves den. :) Anybody who hung around as long You did and took their lumps deserves my kudos.

Don`t be fooled by what might appear to be a stodgy close minded site that`s filled with members who are farting dust......truth be told, there are SEVERAL people on here who go out of their way to help out others, and as some have already pointed out......there are several young collectors on here too.

I happen to agree with Your opinion that the mint should produce a 1/20 oz gold coin. (perhaps this is because I`m extremely near-sighted and would not need magnification to see them) Don`t be discouraged by continuing to push for them either.....the 1/10 oz coins took the same kind of flak when they came out too. (and they`re still here) I personally know people who buy the foreign 1/20 ounce coins, and who would buy the U.S. Mints versions if they were to make them as well.

I hope You choose to hang around this site regardless of how the petition goes. Always good to have new members aboard.
