Gees, find a real issue like the lack of artistry or the worthless cents and nickels that should be eliminated altogether.

  3. Well it's myself and several other people. There are people out there are not going to settle for silver eagles, they want gold as gold is of more prestige than silver. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have a choice and it doesn't hurt to make gold more accessible and affordable.

  4. Well to us this is a real issue. Maybe to you its not, but to us it is and there is nothing wrong with drumming up support. Maybe people should start to appreciate the fact that there are people out there who are taking the initiative to actually have a say in US Mint affairs rather than moaning about what the US Mint does and then later on buying whatever was moaned about.

Try to save up and buy a real, original gold US coin.

  6. We're not doing that. Some of us have other expenses too other than coins. It is very dismissive of you to say that. Also if I save up for a MS65 Saint from 1924 or some other common date. I'm only getting .9675 oz of gold and paying a ton on the premium. The amount of MS65 Saints that are on the market can only go up not down, and I would lose a lot of money if gold went down and if there were a lot more MS65 Saints on the market because the population of MS65 saints only can go up not down.

MS-65 Saints are a finite quantity. Even they are affected by volatility in the metals market - if there are enough of them and demand is static. I own some Saints of that vernacular and they are strictly a collectable to me, not bullion.

If you want a Saint knockoff you can buy those AGE things.

I do not believe this as the US Mint is required to follow the laws governing the production of coins.

Those laws offer some leeway in the design and metallic content of "existing" coinage. Certainly not the creation of a "new" coin such as a 1/20 ounce gold eagle.

The Kennedy Half Dollar can be produced in Proof Versions, Uncirculated Versions, Satin Finish version, in Copper Nickel Cladding, in 90% Silver and with any mintmark the US Mint deems appropriate.

A Gold version would have the same basic design elements as the other coins which may or may not have dual date characteristics but the gold coins, with its metallic content, requires some type of approval.

Yes there are plans to do "something" and a gold coin has been presented as a "possibility" but, so far, none have been produced.

It could not be a "commemorative" since both allotted coins have already been produced and the Commemorative Coin Act of 1996 specifically limited the production of Commemorative Coins to TWO per year.

As such, I have no idea on what authority the US Mint has for simply producing what it wants when it wants it.

Who exactly is "us"? Are you the million man march or something?

  10. There are people out there would would prefer something closer to the pre 1933 Saints rather than those AGE's

Usually that otherwise ineffective and meaningless legislative branch and all their various PAC contributors.

Yes, so buy a pre-1933 and be done with it. Good grief, you act like the things are beyond the means of the masses. I have bought Saints for 4% over spot from Heritage when they had bunches coming out of Europe about a decade ago. It is not like they are running out of them. I believe there are many more Saints available to collectors now than say 30-40 years ago because of the European gold holdings.

BTW, I am always interesting in reading the ideas imposed and presented by new, young collectors who believe that it is easy to make changes and actually control what gets produced annually.

It's only a matter of time before they realize that if it were that easy, then it would have been done by now.

    Petition or not.

As long as you're not footing the bill, I'm sure you'd like them to change the designs every month. Oh wait, you kind of are footing the bill....

  17. I wouldn't want to see design changes every month

  18. But if you have one foot on the ground and believe in yourself, why not?

This statement doesn't have any validity. You could delete the word gold and put in chickens if you want. I can buy a lot fewer chickens today for $100 than I could 10 years ago. The purchasing power of the dollar has decreased. Gold is roughly as valuable as it ever has been...it's our dollar that has changed due to inflation. The true cost of a 1/10oz gold coin today (in purchasing power) is roughly what it was 10 years ago. These coins aren't any less affordable today.

  20. But still, if someone held onto gold they would make a nice profit if they sold it today. We should make that profit more accessible to as many people as possible because there is going to be inflation for the forseeable future
