Used acetone to remove the tape it was in when I first got it came out pretty clean lol only two owners me and my grandfather that's all it's not polished for the fact there's dirt on it
Update. Two pictures if obverse and reverse with two different laughing . Soft white and soft white with HID BLUE led hopefully it's better
It looks to have been harshly cleaned at some point, but it looks real. Nice piece of family history.
The coin has been harshly cleaned. This is one of those cases where shiny means bad. It probably would grade AU Details - Improperly Cleaned. Chris
I have a 1881 S Morgan Dollar, not sure what I should do with it. It has been in my family for over 30 years, a family member found it at the Grant Hotel, San Diego. I'm trying to upload pictures, it is in beautiful quality. Do I get it graded?? How do you know whom to trust? Sorry I'm a newbie. I took a silver polish wipe to and that is all, same thing I use on my silver jewelry, so figure it was safe.
As stated, no need to get it graded. The cleaning was not a good idea, original surfaces are preferred by collectors. It is a common date however so not a lot of value lost.
Thank you for the info!! I won't clean any more that I have! I was given quite a few older coins, and have zero idea what to do. Why I joined cointalk.
