No need for that, it's a 2 Thaler coin of Ferdinand III, Holy Roman Emperor. If authentic, and I don't see any reason it shouldn't be, it's worth at least $1000. I wasn't able to find very many realized auction prices though, so I'd recommend getting it professionally appraised.

Where did your father get it?

Don't know anything about it, but that is one amazing-looking coin!

    Why not get it appraised?

I agree. Look good to me... Nice pieces... That 2 Thaler is killer. If it's a rare one... It could be worth much more than $1k.

Actually I was answering a question from a poster to where I got them. I said I got them from my dad and he had them since the second ww. He is from Austria and was fighting under Hitler.

ok thanks, I tried looking it up on Ebay and got Austria. I can't get over how great this grade is. wow. if I were you I would get it graded PCGS or NGC. I would guesstimate this coin around $2,000-3,000+ . opps I only have catalogs that go up to the 18th century. others in here might have 17th century catalogs.

I would ignore KM pricing as its practically irrelevant. Look at recent auction trends. The 1718 is a Breslau Mint Taler which retails $500 or so. The 2 Taler on auction should likely fetch $2,000 hammer (pre juice). The Joseph is probably a $750-850 coin given it worn condition, yet scarce type.

which coin is this for? The second or the third?

I am sorry. I don't speak the coin language.. what does "hammer (pre juice)" mean?
