I would just be careful...based on what I have read from your postings (in this thread and others), you are quite young and are not extremely experienced with coins. There is nothing wrong with that (we all started there), but you're talking about investing a lot of money into getting coins graded and I'm concerned that you haven't properly evaluated the coins.

Is that coin really worth $100+? If you're off by 1 grade point it might not be. On the other hand, is a coin worth $100 even worth the investment of sending it in (grading fees, shipping, insurance)...that's probably a good $40 invested into that coin. If that's the BEST coin in the group...you need to decide if it is worth it. Based on what I am reading, it probably isn't.

Now, I understand these coins have special sentimental value and you want to protect them. That's a great idea, but there are equally good ways to protect coins that are a lot cheaper. I'd even argue that some holders (Intercept Shield comes to mind) are even superior when it comes to coin protection.

ok, Thanks so much! yeah, my mom has some pretty nice looking morgans.
there are about 2-3 ones she wants to send in. I want to send in two silver coins with the rest being nice looking older coins i have.

I expect this will be an expensive lesson for you. Also, I do not believe either NGC or PCGS certifies bullion rounds.

I agree...that's what I have been trying to explain.

I wonder if ANACS would balk at the rounds, they seem to slab a wide array of things. But, if you really want the rounds graded, send the rounds to ICG. A poster on the NGC boards (I don't know if he's on this board) tried an experiment...what WOULDN'T ICG slab AND grade (not just put in a slab, but actually numerically grade these things)? He sent in damn near everything under the sun...a Ford Motor Co employee round (how do you put a NUMERICAL grade on something like that?), coin club medals, just as a few examples. They finally put the brakes on when it came time to grade his Wooden Nickel (from another coin club). But they slabbed damn near, well, they DID slab AND grade EVERYTHING he sent them that was made of any kind of metal.

I half wonder if they were prepared to attempt to grade the wooden nickel, but everyone scratched their heads and wondered 'how the heck do we grade this'?? But IMO, that would be just another day at ICG.

AKA 'tuition'. Take CamaroDMD's sage advice. There are coins that just aren't worth slabbing, and if you are new, and decide to join either NGC or PCGS, and use the free submissions, and you don't know how to grade, or at least be able to be in the ballpark with a grade 'guesstimate', you don't want things coming back 'genuine' or even non-gradable, due to damage, PVC, possible fakes, etc. These are things that you won't know what to look for, and having a submission full of 'details' or 'genuine', well, THAT would be wasting your 'freebie' money. You won't be saving ANY money in the long run, you'll be out that $$, in all actuality, if that is your main reason for joining.

It was ICG, so it wasn't THAT expensive!!! ;)

Sounds like you just need to go with ANACS and save yourself a boat load of money. If you sign up for the ANACS Insider program, you will get all kinds of offers that will help you save even more money.

I agree with Joe. Even though ANACS' rep has taken a hit since 'switching' with ICG, they still get Morgan's pretty close. Everything else seems like the final grade was a losing coin toss, but that's JMHO. ANACS, as Joe said, has one of the 'cheapest' fee structures of the top 4, especially with the 'Insider Program'. They also have specials for Morgan's from time to time. I'd hold off on the '71 coins, but, the final decision is yours...if savings is the key, you'll definitely not want to pay to have a coin graded and have it become worth less than what you paid to get it graded, which CAN and DOES happen, especially with 'moderns'.

Ken makes a good point above.

So here is what I do personally. If I have a coin worth over $500, then I send it to PCGS. If I have a coin worth $100-$500 then I send it to NGC. Everything under $100 I send into ANACS. Like Ken and others said, you may end up having more into the slabbing fee than what the coin is worth.

ANACS will also do custom slabbing. Take a look at my WV Encased Quarter collection on my site. I basically tossed the money away, but amongst my local collectors, I am the only one to have a set like this. But the key thing is...I had the money to toss away...at your age, do you? You can splurge when you have the extra money, but at your young age you may not. Maybe your parents will pay for it, but it still may not be worth it. Just think about it.

OMG, I am not alone!!! All of my holders MUST be NGC... i cant tell you how much I have spent sending coins in PCGS to NGC for their crossover service (not regrade).

I have 14 of the silver NGC boxes that hold 20. How in the heck could I possibly be expected to put a PCGS holder into the NGC box? SQUARE PEGS DONT FIT IN ROUND HOLES!!! (without a hammer at least).

By the way, your OCD should be CDO (in alphabetical order, as it should be....)

No problem putting PCGS coins in an NGC storage box, but not vice versa. NGC slabs are much thicker (and taller), therefore they won't fit in a PCGS storage box, but once you put the top on the NGC storage box, you can't see what's in it. I know, YOU'LL know...lol I, myself, have a preference, as does most everyone, though mine are still living in a 'co-ed dorm', (have both residing in the same box), but, obviously, I use NGC boxes, until I get around to crossing some more (I guess I tipped my hat as to my preference...lol).

Yes, I know they "fit", but its just that they don't "FIT". Surely you understand?

Believe me, it even bothers me that it bothers me. When I buy coins on eBay in PCGS holders, I already have to factor in how much its going to cost me to have it re-holdered as NGC. Yes I am a bit neurotic, tyvm.
