HOF Flip Question...Open or Not?

I ordered 4 baseball HOF silver coins (3 Proofs & 1 UNC) before they were sold out.

I received my first shipment today of one HOF Silver Proof.

While the market/demand is still high, I would like to sell.

Should I open the Shipping Box to inspect the contents or should I try to sell the coin still in the Shipped Box? Looking at the tracking information on the US Mint site, only one coin was shipped while the others are expected to ship in June/July.

Do you think there is a higher premium on Ebay for a sealed box or not? What would maximize my profit? Thank you for any advice.

Check the eBay completed listing to get an idea of what the market is.

Isn't your personal info on the sheet in the box?
Any concern with the buyer getting it?

  8. You would probably get more money by keeping it sealed. However, I would NEVER do this as your personal info will be on the receipt inside the box. Some people are ok with it, but not me. TC

Yes, good call. I have decided to open the box and you're right...my personal info was on the packing sheet. I'll sell it separate from the shipping box. Thank you for your help.

By the way, it's an absolutely beautiful coin but...geez...it was nearly impossible to remove the coin from the holder. Anybody else have trouble with that?

Not to mention if they messed your order up. What if the buyer opens the box and it's just another US mint bag?!

I ordered some of the Star-Spangled Banner coins, one proof, one UNC. Got the box, kept it sealed and one day my wife thought it was something else and opened it. Good thing she did. It was a non silver proof set and a 3 coin UNC quarter set. I called the Mint and even though it was passed the return period, they accepted the return and sent me my coins. I'm guessing the paperwork for the other person in the box helped support my claim.

My point, you have no idea what's in that box.

Yes. Pry the entire bottom plastic out then you can pop it out.

My brother had a holder shatter on him trying to pry out a proof dollar. The coin wasn't damaged but he contemplating returning it.

I SHOULD know by now, if they are difficult to open, as my coins had a 4/16 ship date.....but, alas, more of the same BS customer service from the Mint.

Well, on the bright side, they didn't shift in the holder like my San Fran old mint gold coins did........

A few reasons I wouldn't sell unopened boxes.

    1. I want to inspect each coin before selling. I will not sell a problem coin unless the problem is stated and there are clear pics of the problem

    2. I want to make sure what I paid for is what I get.

    3. It would be my luck that the Ebay buyer would say he didn't get what was ordered. He could say the Mint screwed up and Ebay would side with the buyer of course. I see Ebay stopping this practice soon, jmo.
