Will the Baseball Hall of Fame Gold coins sell out first day?

Well, in theory, lower mintages (supply) equals it's rarity and greater demand for lower mintage coins drives the value up, and values are spread out across coins' condition (grade). These HoF coins are hardly rare with silver dollars allowed to be minted at 400k or even 365k, but fewer coins typically means more value. Again, these aren't rare. Using "sold out" is just hype marketing and the sort of language used to deceive those who are less aware of the value. The point at which the Mint stops minting them is the figure defined in the coin legislation, for this coin it's 400k.

So I am trying to deceive someone when I tell them that IN FACT this coin is sold out from the mint and second hand is the only way to buy them? Huh, that seems odd.

No, mentioning 'sold out' infers something is perceived to be popular and in demand and therefore more valuable than it likely is really worth. Hence, persons less familiar with intimate details of pricing, or the initial cycles of peaks and rises in prices, may be swayed by such language and overpay, on an impulse of reading such a line, rather than spend the time to learn how prices change after a sell out and later settle into a more static and likely cheaper (compared to now) price range.

The Mint will also announce a "sell out" to make way for new inventory in the following year whether they mint all the coins they are allowed to or not.

I got two proof dollars. One UNC dollar, and one clad proof.

The rest of your order will ship later, but they won't charge you any additional for the shipping on the later packages.

You MIGHT get them to reimburse you for the return shipping, but not the initial shipping to you.

Yes, what Conder said about shipping is true. They charged you $4.95 shipping for your order, and it was merely assigned to the first part of the order that shipped.

What I don't like about this is the fact that I can still cancel my coin order, because they haven't been processed for shipping yet, but since they already shipped the bag I didn't want, I would still be out the $4.95 shipping cost.

That's why after I figured out that stupid bag fiasco, I cancelled the bags on my subsequent orders. Not sure if they learned, or ran out of bags, but my most recent order didn't add a bag even though it qualified for one (if they still had them).

  18. My gold uncirculated has arrived. Well, I actually had to drive to UPS to pick it up. TC

  19. Tough one to photograph, but here is my uncirculated gold HOF commemorative coin. The coin is flawless. I looked at it under a microscope and could find no imperfections. Enjoy, TC

Nice TC! Thanks for the giant pics! Looks like it takes more than one light source to illuminate the surfaces for pics since the shape creates problems, and the shaped capsule compounds them.
