My personal opinion is that if the CCAC wants to change the SAE design then they should change BOTH the obverse and reverse designs to promote an entirely new set for collectors. This would allow previous collectors of the SAE's the option to "finalize" their collection and start a totally new one if they so desire.

It was a big disappointment for me when it was decided to change the reverse of the Sacagawea Dollar (after just 8 years!) while leaving the obverse the same. I really liked the "soaring eagle" reverse, but I'm not a fan of the annual change for the reverse nor do I care for the fact that the coin was renamed the "Native American Dollar".

In any event, if the CCAC feels it necessary to make changes (to justify their existence?) then maybe they should set their gray matter to the task of coming up with totally new designs for some of our circulating coinage like the dime and half dollar which haven't changed for 68 years and 50 years respectively.

I agree with you about changing both sides. The current sides compliment each other nicely. I feel changing the reverse but not the obverse would mean the reverse would no longer compliment the obverse. Also, designs are based around current mint tech where as the obverse is based around old tech/ability. As such I agree, to keep continuity both sides should probably be redesigned if you're going to redesign at all. Don't half-%^#* it.

Of course, there is one other argument for the idea of "retiring the old" and "introducing the new".......................

The Dansco's are going to get awfully heavy!

As much as I love the design, I would like to see it end. It's been a long ride. I'm ready to get off and start something new.

I don't feel that the designs necessarily compliment each other all that much, especially since Walking Liberty was originally used with a different reverse anyway (on the half).

But if there is a need for change, why not change the whole thing? I like the eagle reverse that was selected. Maybe we could have a new Seated Liberty design for the obverse?

I love 40 and 41 best, but I'd say 40 is my favorite. Pretty sweet artwork.

  11. The obverse is a classic and I would like it to remain. However, I would prefer a new reverse design every year. TC

Most of the designs look stupid.

Furthermore, Bullion Silver Eagles sales have been setting records. Leave it to the govt to mess with success.

i vote for #41 for obverse an #25 for reverse, after all it is called "American Silver Eagle" not "American Silver Walking Liberty"... or #41 on obverse an a new Liberty on reverse...

Okay, so I'll be the one who gets technical about it.

Actually, it is a Silver American Eagle. The coin, itself, is an American Eagle modified by the adjective (either Gold or Silver).

You will probably see the 40 design on something, if not the ASE. The CFA added a small U.S. Marshall Shield to the eagles breast and is considering it for the reverse of the U.S. Marshall commemorative. They obviously have high regards for that design.

Leave it as is, but, I think we may have a new quarter series in the making.;)

    Ditto.

I would rather see all those designs on the reverse of the quarter series. I have yet to like any of the state park reverses.

well then, one can also argue that on the U.S. Mint website they are listed as American Eagle Gold, American Eagle Silver, American Eagle Platinum, therefore being "AEG", "AES" or "AEP".........
