    Looks like a lamination error Rick. I believe a split planchet is when the near-entirety of the planchet splits. This will often result in a coin that is only half as thick as a normal one, and one side will look like a huge lamination error like the ones seen in this link: http://error-ref.com/Split_plan_after.html

    Yup looks like a lamination to me too.
