I'm actually still turning over the possibility in my head...is $40 really worth it.....I actually have a Barber dime I was looking at on Ebay I was tempted to spend that money on.
As normal I am very confused. These are overstruck coins. Why would someone overstrike a 90% silver coin for another (1945) 90% silver coin ? $ 40 dollars for a coin that should say COPY. I don't think so. You can buy the original on EBay all day long for a couple of bucks. When the disclaimer says; These are over-struck on genuine 1946-1964 90% silver Roosevelt dimes, they have the correct weight (no metal is added or removed), and correct metallic content (no heating or melting is performed). All the over-strikes are privately and carefully performed using a surplus Denver Mint coin press. NOTE: Defacing of US coins is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes. Is this not a defacement for fraudulent purposes. ? Dave
You guys read the description? (I'm sure you have) Daniel's really covering his butt on this one........
I think that the worse decision from the mint over the past 10 years was the lack of a silver proof eagle in 2009. Thus, I did buy the 2009-DC (thick) ASE. I'm not sure if I get the 1945 Rosie dime. Is there a demand for replacing the last year and very popular Merc with the less popular Rosie?
I like some of his overstrikes. I don't care for this one bc I'm not a fan of Roosevelt dimes. I have the 1963 Kennedy and the 1933 Washington and the 1975 Bi-Cent. Washington all high grade 90% silver. I got the Kennedy graded last year and I'm sending the Washington Quarters in later this year. These are in my fun box and don't count as "my collection". I have 5 fun coins in that box, they can stay in the closet.
Unlike the other fantasy overstrikes, the small size of this one perhaps makes it more likely that someone might mistaken it as a real error/variety coin.
Well I just bought one...... I like Kennedy's and this is one to have for fun, maybe after I see it I will get the 75 to go along with it.
There is a lot of controversy around this seller already. He has many different "fantasy coins" listed. I seriously doubt that the Secret Service will allow him to operate much longer.
He has been doing it a while, this is the first fantasy coin that I have purchased. I really like his Ameros.
No. It is for collectors who enjoy "Fantasy" struck coins. Its still as valid a Roosevelt Dime as one which has severe scratching on the surface from being run over in the road. It is up to the buyer to understand and realize that no Roosevelt Dimes were made in 1945. I have several of Daniel Carr's pieces and his style is definitely different than an authentic US Mint product.
