I ordered 10 silver proof dollars about an hour ago. I'm going to take them to work and sell them at my cost of $52.45 each. They'll probably give me $55 and with the extra money I'll buy us a couple of pizzas for lunch...hey, we can throw the crust in the Mint bag.

  3. You could also plan a trip to Cooperstown, NY for the 2014 HOF induction weekend and sell them for big buck to the attendees. :) TC

While the design of this coin is entirely suitable and largely uncluttered looking, I did come to a sudden realization recently after reading elsewhere that the Hall of Fame is not named on this coin and that without being told what the coin is for, we have no reference to the institution. It may be a design oversight or amazing restraint by the institution NOT to brand itself. Not sure which, but just surprised how easy it was not to notice this, given the effectiveness of the design itself was and how welcoming it looked without lots of extra text and devices crammed onto the piece.

Krispy, that's actually the main reason I love it! I find that there is too much overthinking with many of the commemoratives, at least in my opinion. The artists cram too many details in to these designs to begin with. Then there is the political correctness taken to a level that I find myself actually insulted by it.

This coin could have easily been a disaster, if it followed the way some of the other commemoratives have. I think I've commented before, that this could have had some terrible picture of the HOF building, or even worse, a male baseball player with a female umpire both of them with features of 17 different nationalities.

I'm so glad they went with a simple design. I hope they are learning from this.

The most recent disaster is the civil rights coin. How about the guy with boobs on the end there? More symbols and less fictitious people on these coins, please!

I hope to go to a coin show and see the gold commemorative coins in hand before deciding if I absolutely love them or not. If so, I'll wait a year or so to grab one. Hopefully the price will go down.

I was just offered $8500 for 10 raw coins from an eBay reseller. I've been selling these daily and the average increase each day has been close to $50 in additional sales. I'd be willing to bet that we see sales go into the mid $800s - low $900s next week and the week after, especially after the first mint shipped packages end up online.

  11. Wow! If these are presales, what happens if the mint shipments to you are delayed and you cannot deliver the product within the 30 day window required for eBay presales? I think you have said you ordered early and should be fine. I am curious of the eBay presale sellers on the wait list. TC

Are these for the gold coins, or the other varieties?

I've been in touch with all of my buyers and a majority of them have no problem with the expected timelines. Just as an update, I spoke with a representative at the mint yesterday and she said with a good degree of confidence that orders would be shipping no later than the 10th. My plan is to offer a full refund if orders don't ship in time for eBay compliance and honestly that's probably in my best financial interest at this point. Most buyers seem to be happy to work with me and embrace the wait.

It's surprising that eBay hasn't been policing presale auctions on these coins more often. I see plenty of sellers mentioning July and June in the delivery dates.

Only the PR and UNC gold.

I think that the silver coins will have success further down the road. They may have high mintages but the coin is going to be more affordable amongst baseball fans. I'll bet they hold double premiums in the years to come.

I was one of the approximately 200 entries for this Hall of Fame coin design. Having coached Little League for over forty years and collect coins for even longer I thought I could come up with a winning design. Many intital entries were not sure whether or not to include information, words, buildings, stadiums etc. specific to the Hall of Fame. Mid-contest, they told us no mention of the Hall of Fame was to be included, just baseball in general. The winning designer was to receive $5000 and have his/her initials on the coin. I don't see any sign of her initials from the pictures I've seen.

The true artist was given an advantage as the submission had to be done by the artist. I'm sure many others that can't draw had even better ideas for this coin. The mint could have used their "idea" to use its engravers to do the final artwork.

It seems it would have been best to have used several different "scenes" on the three denominations, rather than all six coins being the same design. The glove, which is great for simplicity, would have probably been on the smaller gold coin. More details artwork would work better on the larger denominations.

My design tried to refer indirectly to the Hall of Fame rather than generic baseball, which was selected. The number 75 on the modern day batter represented the purpose of the coin being the 75th anniversary of the Baseball Hall of Fame. The pitcher was from the 1939 era, which is when the H of F began. The H of F is the stars of baseball, thus the curved stars on the upper left. Finally and most important, the scene is a curve ball to take full advantage of the curved coin. My design was never considered. It was completed and sent 15 minutes prior to the deadline. They then requested a second copy of the entry be sent a different method for another use and by the time I learned how to send that second particular file, it was one minute past the deadline and was refused.

Anyway, if anyone was wondering why no mention of the Baseball Hall of Fame was included on the designs or any other rules given to us, I'll try to help you out here. MikeParent_USMintCoinBaseball.jpg

Well, I think that design is cool as well. Furthermore, I think it's awesome that you took the time the create it. Does the mint own copyrights to your design now?

It would be really cool if you contracted a private mint to make a few in silver. I know such mints exist but I think they have 100x minimums + setups.
