Doug, I might take a little exception to your comment. While I agree, on average that the coin "is a $15 coin," for that moment in time it was a $140+ coin. Will the person take a loss if it's sold in the future? Most assuredly. But consider that it may have been the one coin to fill out a dying child's, spouse's, parent's, or sibling's collection. What might be a $15 coin to all of us, was, apparently, much more than that to the high bidder. As usual, YMMV.
Been going on for a long time. Less clumsy than purchasing agents getting Season box tickets to football games or magical lottery wins of time shares in resorts.
I'd hardly consider $140 or $150 as "money laundering" and think its rather laughable that it was even brought up.
Looks like we got another one headed up to lofty heights.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-S-NGC-PF-69-Ultra-Cameo-Kennedy-Half-Dollar-/121240400947? Over a day left and almost at $100...
Hex fools here tell me that my extra/my 2 of 's 1973-S PR-69DCam is to high @ $25.00 eBay is cheaper,but not here I still have a 73-S 79-S PR69DCam type 1 too
I have offer both for less than ebay $ Still have them.members thinks 25.00ea +s/h is to much. Pcgs must not be ??? */* ?????
Given the fact that the second coin does not have a special slab label, I'm thinking that someone without a lot of knowledge just came into a lot of money. That's just nutz.
2014 January coin world came today and noted "Kennedy half dollars are up 16%. 50th year maybe banner year ? ©
Thinking more of a laundering scheme type thing. I had someone ask me to bid on an eBay auction one time for a car. Just to get the bid up. I was shocked at him even asking me to do that. I refused but never forgot it..
