To the contrary, I do believe we have a lucky winner! Assuming all these are shots of the same coin, that tail on that side of the 4's stem is unmistakeable. I also see hints of the 1 underdate in a couple of the shots.

You can basically see the whole ghost "1" in the 6th pic.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I don't think the 1 in the date has anything to do with this coin being the supposed overdate (which in reality is actually a class III doubled die).

Not the first "1" in the date, but the 2 over the ghost 1. In the Philadelphia version, it's 100% clear. In the Denver version, you can only see the top and bottom of the 1 and sometimes a faint line inside the 2.

I don't think it is either. The underlying bottom of the possible '4' is tilted. to the 9 a visible amount and the '1' doesn't fit for me either.

These are all of the same coin, just different angles.

My bag of junk dimes, I seen a post earlier in the week about this date so after seeing exactly what I was looking for I went through all 400 of my dimes and seen this one. Been looking at it forever and couldn't decide because I just couldn't think of this still being in my junk bag.

Well this is the picture I have been staring at trying to figure out if I did have the overdate....(not mine, from the internet)

    odate.JPG

Looks similar to me... but that might only because it's my coin :)

should I soak it in acetone to get rid of the gunk around the date to make it easier to see?
