Do you pay your parents for the privilege of driving you to work for your three hour shifts? I make my not yet driving kids pay me for gas when I have to drive them places like the shopping mall or friends etc. The ones that drive buy their own gas - sort of has the effect of seriously cramping excessive driving.

$125 a month including gas and insurance? Really? That is pretty flipping cheap. I pay a hell of a lot more just to gas up the old Volga about three times a month.:(

The one big difference, the big big difference - I am pretty sure you were doing a lot more ie driving, job, school etc than our subject here. I am afraid he is not going to be far from the crib when he is even your present age.;)

I've little doubt that most everyone (including/especially the ParenTaxis) is in support of his getting a license, but we really shouldn't have hold his hand through everything. If, year after year, he wishes to ignore and/or dispute every bit of the rather incredible amount of advice provided him, perhaps it is time to just to tell him what he wants to hear.

Are you flipping serious? Did you see the battering the 1993 Ford Tempo got, he even posted videos of his adventures on Youbo0b.

I was...my only point was that the fact alone of living with one's parents at that age isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world. Sure, it did affect my social life a little...but I was so buried in studying that I don't know if it made that much difference at all. I know my situation and his were completely different...someone just pointed out that living at home at his age is bad, and my thought was that that fact alone isn't THAT bad.

I for one don't believe that even at 23 that is a bad thing - provided they are laying the foundations for future independence. Parking the posterior in a 15 hour a week, minimum salary position and not doing anything with educational endeavours just wouldn't cut it here.

    NO, YOU CAN'T!

It usually takes years of experience to achieve "fine" driving skills and a decade or more to become a good driver. You have almost no driving experience and are a danger to both yourself and every other driver on the road. That fact that you don't know this makes you even more dangerous behind the wheel.

It is not a coincidence that auto insurance companies charge male drivers in the 16-25 age bracket the highest premiums. It is also not a coincidence that some of the biggest TV advertisers are auto insurance companies. You think that TV advertising is completely useless and that no commercials yield positive ROIs. You also think you can drive "fine". You think pure communism is the cure to the world. You learn something new and after only a few hours of experience, you think you are an expert. The truth is that you don't have a fundamental understanding of anything, not driving, advertising, communism or anything else. With every post you make on this forum you successfully drive that indisputable fact into our brains and make it very difficult to believe that you are actually over the age of 20.

And you will always be treated like the immature little kid that you are until you stop being an

Really don't have a choice. Looked at used, but nothing in any better shape than what I have is under $3000. I don't make enough money to afford payments on that.

If it's the best he has...then it's the best he has. If it runs and drives and he can learn how to fix it, there's nothing wrong with that. It's not a bad place to start...it's better than no car.

But if you're going to put a couple grand into having someone weld in new floor pans, you might be better of getting a civic or corolla that isn't rusted and may be more mechanically reliable. It all goes back to getting a better job, second job, or more hours at the one you have.

When I was in 8th grade I would make $3000 in the summer riding my bike 6 miles to the golf course and then carrying people clubs all day. You act like that is some unobtainable amount of money.

If I were you, I'd cut the losses and take a short term gain by taking the vehicle on a one way trip to the scrapyard. You can get a nicer car for under $3000 with the right connections. My 18 yr old just bought a 2004 Toyota Camry, a really high mile, but very well maintained car for $2000. It was driven by a retired couple that took it in on a regular schedule for all maintenance. There is absolutely nothing wring with the car - I even sneak a drive in it once in awhile, for instance like today when it is raining and I don't wanna get my nice clean Volga filthy dirty.

Give yourself some credit, come on, stop the negativity. Eventually you are going to come over to the positive lightside.
