Not a bad deal, if you think silver is near a bottom. http://www.greatcollections.com/Coin/181134/1999-1-Silver-Eagle-NGC-MS-70
20,000 dollars for a bullion coin that has $20 dollars of silver in it.... You have to be one ASE addict to pay that kind of money.
According to NGC population report, there are 94 graded at MS70 out of 77,225 graded. For the year 1999 that is. PCGS has zero at that grade out of a total of 5,575 graded.
I'd bet that most of those 94 graded by ngc were submitted to PCGS they would be graded ms69. PCGS does not hand out ms70 easily they have to be perfect on a microscopic level whereas ngc usually lets a few things slide
In the case of these 1999 ASE's, it's not a totally even comparison because of the discrepancy in total graded, but it sure looks like PCGS has higher standards. At least for MS70. At the rate NGC gave MS70 (94 out of 77225), PCGS should have 6 or 7 graded at MS70. Yet they have zero.
Exactly, If I come across a coin that I think should be graded I will go to another dealer and have them send it to PCGS to have it graded. I only trust PCGS. (I can't submit directly to PCGS because I am not a PCGS certified dealer but I will be someday!)
