The other Frank said it appears to be O-101 which is the overdate. I got it from a dealer near me so if there's any problems I'll take it back to him.
Also the dealer I took it to to be graded didn't have any concerns. And this was the 4th coin I brought to him to be graded, first one that is actually being graded. He's been in business for over 30 years.
I had absolutely zero problems with it I own at least half a dozen draped bust halves including 2 1806 plus I love know and study early us coins the second I saw it it screamed original and right I'd have bought it in a second!! And for future resale value I'd have done the same with it it'd be on my next pcgs or NGC shipment
Thanks for all the posts about avoiding fakes! The Chinese make me paranoid. Here is my 1806 Half that I bought from a dealer (as a raw coin) for $350 back in 2010. We both thought this coin was a F12/15. I submitted it to PCGS just to make sure there were no problems and I was shocked when it came back as a VF25. I always felt like circulated Draped Bust Halfs were a great coin deal, $350 for all this history seems like a steal. I bet this had a very old light cleaning (like most coins dated in the early 1800's), but it wasnt heavy enough to keep it from grading. (By the way, I still think this is in the F12/15 range!) I think I read somewhere that there are only about 10,000 DBH's as a total field population for that type -- which is pretty scarce in the scheme of type coins. This coin is part of my Type Collection of U.S. Half Dollars ... all PCGS graded and showing unusual color (or at least multiple gray tones).
One I sent in this year I felt it to be vf 20 I'd had it for several years before I sent it I think in grading them some consideration is taken for inconsistancys of strike they called it vf-30
I love all the detail you have on the eagle's wings (like BigT's example also). You both have much more detail than mine. Someday I would love to own an AU example, but that's some serious $$$. Grades on my Half Dollar Type Set (in case anyone is interested) 1795 = F15 1806 = VF25 1832 = AU55 1862 = PR63 1893 = PR62 1944 = MS66 1963 = PR66 1964 = PR67
Thanks for asking ... this coin is a PCGS F15 that I bought for $3400 in June 2011. Being a collector of "color", this was one that I had to buy -- even though it was a bit over guide price.
She's a beauty! The color makes the coin even more beautiful. I did a quick eBay search, don't see any with any color at all... Must have taken some time to find that one! Is the Seated half a proof?
Unfortunately au details cleaned but was such a nice coin for the money I bought it anyway $975 I think I paid
My flowing hair half is nowhere near that nice one I'd like to eventually upgrade to a vf but mines a clean problem free original vg-8 which I can easily live with for now
Got this 07 a couple months ago really pretty retoning a after an old dip but I think its market acceptable i find out soon I got a whole pile of coins I need to send off to pcgs I'm planning on doing it this week hopefully
I couldn't help myself. The photo white balance is off a little bit, but I think it'll look great in hand.
