1854 Fived Coin?

what kind of coin is this? I bought a bag of Cent's
and this was in it.

It's a 1854 five dollar gold coin piece from Denver. Good find (if I'm right)

 

Gold! what is it worth? and what does the C stand for under the eagle?

 

To be honest I'm like 80%'sure and idk what's its worth and that c idk

 

The "C" would stand for Charlotte. The question is, "Is it real?"

Jewelry is one thing. Coins are another. Counterfeits are known to exist for so many gold coins, so it would be advisable to have it authenticated.

It should weigh 8.359 gms; 90% gold; 10% copper; .24187 oz. pure gold; 21.6 mm with a reeded edge.

Im having a scale bought to me now. Gold is gold it looks 18k.
they mixed gold with copper for jewelry also. I have an real old 18k
ring mixed with copper and the color is identical to this coin.

 

There is a good bit of wear on it so it seems to have traveled around. Hoping for good news Tommy. If it checks out, this is utterly amazing! Good luck!

I took it to the pawn shop right down the block I couldnt wait its gold an heres
the weight.

 

Wow an 1854 - c $5 gold was made in Charlotte nc as long as it's not an altered mintmark you got a real winner it does appear real and I can't tell if its cleaned or ex jewelry but it looks like a real good score

 

Without being home to check my books and guessing it at around vf I'm gonna say 1500-2000 but don't hold me to that is well over $1k anyway

 

There is no Denver mintedc $5 from 1854 the d is for dalonhega Georgia the Denver Colorado mint didn't open until 1906

 

Weights right especially allowing for some circulation I believe you have a real $5 gold

 

"Coins" magazine lists VF20 @ $1750. Where do you get your bags?!? LOL!!
