You see the listing shown below. It's obvious that the seller has made a mistake. What do you do? (Sold within 30 secs on ebay. I could have had it but I passed)
Buy it. Even if the seller cancels the sale, you get your money back. If not, you got a great deal. It's happened for me several times.
I'd probably check to see how much feedback the seller had. If they were fairly new I'd probably pass on it but if they had lots of reviews I would have bought it.
It has happened to me that I won some auctions for 0.01 or 0.99 with free shipping. I always wrote a message to the seller asking to cancel the sale. I don't feel comfortable having someone send me a $250 set for 0.99. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night anymore. If buy it now I pass, if auction I always ask for cancellation.
Got this for 0.99 plus free shipping: I half expected the seller to cancel the sale but instead he messaged me and said he made a mistake but would still honor the sale. I got a great deal and that seller got a customer for life.
I've done it and honored the sale it sucks but it was my mistake and tought me to be more careful in the future
BUY! I recently purchased a Bahamian proof set with around $50+ in silver and purchased it for $22.01. Smiled about it all weekend.
In fact recently I came across a 37S Walker in PCGS 65 for $24.95. I bought it and immediately messaged the seller and told him I figured he made a mistake when he listed it and told him I only bought it to save him some grief from an unscrupulous buyer that would expect the seller to deliver the coin at that price or suffer a neg. I told him when he refunded me I would agree to cancel the sale. He thanked me profusely and offered a discount on a future purchase.
I've had his happen once as a buyer when a PCGS certified proof WLH was offered slightly over melt. I hit the BIN and we canceled the sale.
It's been caught and changed to an auction. Me? I'd have messaged the seller to let him know of his mistake. Taking advantage has a way of coming back and biting you in the ass.
As a buyer, I'm not interested in those kind of deals. As a seller I have made that mistake a couple times before. Its funny when the buyers get upset that I cancelled the sale.
I'd buy it and invite the seller to cancel. I figure it'll save the seller from falling victim to the "OMG I bot it at that price send me it or I'll neg you!!!" crowd. I don't see these much any more, though -- I don't camp on the new BIN auctions nearly as much as I used to, since they changed their infrastructure to something that usually delays new listings.
Eh, can't win em all I guess... If I see something like that post, 9 times out of 10 I don't bother because I'm 99% sure the seller will pull the sale and it's not worth my time. Of course, I don't think there's anything wrong with a little gambling now and then. I just go in with the knowledge that the sale will most likely get cancelled.
There is a difference between a good deal and buying the coin in original post for .99 + 4 shipping. & I wouldn't call it gambling either...not much on the line for you except a BIG profit. Sorry
