Yah, I'm kinda bored and thought this might be kinda fun/interesting ... hey, I realize that everybody's favourite coin and favourite tune probably changes depending upon their particular mood at the time ... but try posting your favourite coin and your favourite tune "at this time" (oh, and I'll try not to judge you too harshly if you're in a show-tunes kinda mood) Yah, I realize that this could be a total bust, or it could be a total blast (I hope that it's fun) ... either way, I don't get paid for this ... amazingly, I love joking-around with you guys!! Cheers, bros & sis!! Ummm?? ... today's favourite ancient coin and favourite song is ... ummm? ... play along if ya want ... I'm betting Bing will post a country tune ... TIF and chrsmat will post classic rock somethin' or other ... vlaha will post Justin Beeb''s girlfriend's tune ... etc I like you guys ... oh, and I'm positive that I'll have different favourites "tomorrow"!!
Different favorite song tomorrow? How 'bout next hour? My favorite coin at the moment and likely for thousands more moments is of course... You're right about me liking classic rock but I listen to a very wide variety of music-- rock, jazz, 70's funk (yeah!), classical, folk, etc. Here's one of my all-time favorites by Michael Hedges (album version has better audio but watching him coax three players' worth of music from one guitar is awesome). Aerial Boundaries If you are an acoustic guitarist and don't know Michael Hedges... you're welcome
This image should cover it until next weekend. In no particular order: My favorite invention of the last few years is the car 'radio' with USB input that allows you to have all your favorites on one zip drive so you can put it on random and drive crosscountry without a repeat.
Great idea for a thread Steve! My favorite coin...well despite liking ancients and getting into them a lot in the last year...I'm going to go off road a bit with jolly old Franz Joseph. Funny now that I collect Roman Imperials I can see their influence on an Austro-Hungarian coin minted last century. But for my favorite tune...you got me in kind of an AC/DC mood with yours...here's a classic rendition of my favorite AC/DC tune filmed circa 1970 something.
On any given night you would probably be right. Hank Williams Sr., Charlie Pride Buck Owens, Mel Tillis. I could go on and on. But tonight I'm in a soulful frame of mind, and when I think of soul music, I go with The Temptations. And what better song then My Girl released in 1964. But I have no idea how to download a YouTube Video, so you will just have to imagine the tune in your mind. OR someone here will have to download and post it for me. As for coins, there is only one coin I can think of to go along with the music: JULIA DOMNA AR Denarius OBVERSE: IVLIA DOMNA AVG, draped bust right REVERSE: VENERI VICTR, Venus standing right, naked to waist, leaning on column to left, holding palm and apple Struck at Rome, 194 AD 2.5g, 17mm RIC 536
Funny JA. I spit my coffee out my nose. However, I wasn't quite thinking of that song. HOw about posting My Girl by the Temptations, 1964.

Favorite coin of the moment : My latest one. Athena/Perseus-Medusa from Pontos, Amisos. Favorite song of the moment : "Lady-O" by Judee Sill. Not exactly a great fit for the coin, but when she sings "on my heels I'll grow wings", it does sort of echo Perseus flying about on his winged sandals.
Favourite coin...arrrrrrrg!!!!! I received this along with seven other coins from Doug Smith and I just love the reverse. A round of applause for Doug! Here4's what I got from Wildwinds: "Probus, AE silvered anoninianus. 22mm, Siscia, 279 AD. IMP C M AVR PROBVS P F AVG, radiate bust left, wearing imperial mantle and holding eagle-tipped sceptre / VIRTVS PROBI AVG, Probus on horseback galloping right, spearing enemy kneeling before him with arms raised. Mintmark XXIT (90 bust types and mintmark combinations known) [My emphasis]. RIC V-2 Siscia 817; Cohen 918 var." As you can see, the T was left out and there's an oval shape in the fields. Info anyone? Oh...at the same time I implemented the 2/3 photo ratio. I'm going to have to cheat on the favourite song, I'm doing my two favourite show tunes. Sorry Steve, I couldn't resist. I love this song. So...FUNNY!
The oval shape is the shield dropped by the victim. You got that coin because I never could photograph it as well as you did. Did I give away a great rarity or are we missing something? Don't give it away until you know.
Yah, I laughed pretty hard a few times while going through your posts!! (great team-effort, comrades) ... JA => I laughed really hard at "Baby Gots Back", but I laughed even harder when I read Bing's reply, begging for you to post "My Girl" instead!! vlaha => deciding to post your show-tunes made me smile as well (is that the guy from "Weeds" singing the first tune?) Bannon => I loved your coin & tune (hard to miss with ACDC, brother) Oh, and thanks for posting your tune as well, Z-bro ... you guys are awesome!!
Hey Bing ... I've chosen a coin and a tune for you my friend (I hope that I nailed it!!) => have a great day!!
