Cherrypicked a 1942/1-D :)

So I've been trying to find the time to image and post this. About a year ago I bought a 1942-D Mercury Dime because I thought it could be the elusive 1942/1-D Overdate Mercury Dime. After showing it to numerous collectors and dealers who told me that there's no way it's legit I sorta put off submitting it to PCGS. Finally I thought "what the heck?" and submitted about 1-2 months ago. Here's how it did:

There wasn't a single person who told me that it's legit but my gut feeling proved them wrong. It feels like quite a few people underestimate coin collectors under 25 yrs old.
Anyways, I bought this coin for under $5 at a coin show a year or so ago and now it's a $500+ Mercury Dime variety. I'll probably end up getting a matching 42/1-P Mercury Dime in VF-25 just for kicks but I doubt I'll be able to cherrypick that. With this I'll only need 4 more coins to complete my Mercury Dime collection. This year might just be the year to complete my very first set
PS. Sorry for the terrible pic. It was taken on my college notebook. If it wasn't obvious enough I'm procrastinating on college work and stuff.

I cherried one from junk silver some time ago. [about 10 years ago.]

A number of dealers told me nope!

That's it, you guys better start showing some pictures. They are a staple when showing off this much.

You cherried one more recently (2 or 3 years ago) at the Massapequa coin show, didn't you? I was there and you showed it to me.

The more I see the 42/1 and the 42/1D the more I want to own a pair....

 

This makes me want to go through all my dimes now and see if I have one hiding in the bunch.

I read a story/article of someone finding 2 UNC 1942/1-D's a few years back so I suppose one can cherrypick a 42/1-D in nearly every range of grade. I hope I am able to cherrypick something this nice again but it's very unlikely. Time will tell i guess.

There was someone (I forget the site, I think PCGS) who cherried an MS-65 FSB.

This happens frequently to me as well. Sometimes after doing research people may say no you are wrong, but if you do your research and still feel strongly send it out, either way you learn from your experience. Nice pick!!!

 

And it was a 65+ to boot!

 

You don't have to go through all your dimes, just the 1942's.

Paid $1.60 for it
