Mainebill, do you find estate auctions getting crazy high bids placed on crap, as I have seen (in my opinion, that's the rule rather than the exception)? If so, and you ARE in ME, maybe I ought to take a couple hour rides a few times a month and go to estate auctions up there!

If this story is legit, I think it's more a case of eBay's "the buyer is always right" policy rather than a change regarding their graded coins policy.

I hope you don't mind but I selectively quoted your extremely long rant.

Now, what are you talking about? The link in this thread is about a coin that the buyer attempted to cross a PCGS DCAM to NGC ULTRA CAMEO and the coin did not cross. There is no evidence in that thread that the coin was returned in an NGC holder with a lower grade.

If what you are describing actually happened, please provide a link that shows us where a seller was required by E-Bay to accept a PCGS MS64 in return after selling an NGC MS65. Otherwise, you are ranting about a hypothetical scenario.

Furthermore, the more outrage and publicity you guys give this issue, the more likely some nut case is going to copycat the behavior. This is one thread that we should simply let die!

You've got to be kidding me... you mean to tell me there's a possibility that a "nut case" is visiting CT, lol?

They've been a waste of time lately mediocre coins selling gor 120% of retail. I've cherry picked some real good stuff over the years but lately (the last 2 years especially) it's been common stuff at full or beyond retail I can buy better and cheaper on ha and s&b. isn't just coins either everything going high lately except furniture and it's been all crap I've been in the antiques business 21 years and I've always found late winter and spring one of the toughest times to buy as to coins there was a decent lot of earlier coins mostly bust and seated stuff that I figured at $800-1000 I dump it on someone at $1700+ 10% and later find that its a dealer I know who's been doing well with coins on ebay all I could say is good luck with that batch as a I can see is a $500 loss

Selectively quoting is just like the newspapers selectively quoting a politician....they can selectively make a statement say what they want. I was HYPOTHISIZING about the situation brought up in the very first sentence of this thread, not using a hard example that has happened.

I was HYPOTHISIZING about the situation brought up in the very first sentence of this thread, not using a hard example that has happened. Had I read the link, instead of simply reading the responses, my 'rant' would have been somewhat different. This is MY fault for going somewhat off the beaten path of the origin of the info in the link. Now that I have read the link, where it's claimed to be a possibility, I admit, I should have backed off a bit. I do apologize for going too far with it, but, if this is kind of stuff is going to happen, my thoughts are still the same on it.....it's unfathomable, as it just puts into question the competency of the graders and the major grading co's...those same grading co's who ebay has felt are the only one's who can be competent as independent with no personal gain to be made in regard to what price is brought within a coins grade. In the case of the poster that was linked, if that poster is being truthful, it's insanity

With that being said, had I read the link, instead of simply reading the responses, my 'rant' would have been somewhat different. This is MY fault for going somewhat off the beaten path of the origin of the info in first post. Now that I have read the link, where it's claimed to be a possibility, I admit, I shouldn't have gone off as I did. I do apologize for going too far with it, but, IF this is kind of thing is going to happen, my thoughts are still the same on it.....it's unfathomable, as it just puts into question the competency of the graders and the major grading co's, and makes the buyer the expert, not the TPG's...those same grading co's are ebay approved, with no personal gain to be made in regard to what price is brought within a coins grade, unlike my example of SGS 'graded' coins, where the seller WAS the grader. In the case of the poster that was linked, if that poster is being truthful, it's insanity. I feel he just had a buyer who didn't read the entire item's description. Ebay's coin 'forum' is not like CT, CU or NGC's forums. It seems to be for nothing but b*tching about how bad ebay is in regard to the seller's experience with a buyer. I just can't believe that poster's claim.

Again, I apologize for my not-fully-thought-out rant, and what's more, I agree with you, this kind of thread should just be left to fall off the face of the earth due to possible copycat behavior, as the Ebay coin forum does not appear to be a discussion forum, but rather, as a forum for whining about ebay or a buyer after the sale. That was actually my first time reading anything on their discussion board, and now I know why I don't peruse it. Notice that the ebay poster who claimed this happened has only 1 post there, and it was only due to a problem buyer? I'll post no more on this subject.

Which part? When someone is wrong, or comments w/out all the facts, as I did, it takes a real man to own up to his mistakes, which leads me to......

And, jaceraveone WOULD 'like' it.......I'd say why, but ..........then again, I already have in another post.

If you go back and read your post (#26), you cut and pasted the same paragraph 4 times (presuming unintentionally). SO when i wrote "You can say that again" I was just having a little fun with the fact that you "said it" over and over again already...

That's also why C-B-D wrote " Is it groundhog day? " as in the movie with Bill Murray where he lives the same day over and over again.

Wow, that was either a glitch, or somehow, I managed to copy/paste and did it unknowingly/unwittingly. Wish I could edit it out, but now, it's there for good! As for jaceravone, I'm going to send a PM to you. Please take the time to read it, it WON'T be negative.

This is just absolutely crazy. Ebay has had a couple policy that has improved the coin marketplace. This new "protective" policy could take the entire coin marketplace several steps backwards. I'm kinda at a loss of words about this. Ebay can make some pretty moronic decisions sometimes, it appears that this is one of them...
