A few days ago I was walking somewhere when I spotted this nickel face-down on the ground. I picked it up and noticed that it had a higher relief, a trait commonly seen on nickels made before the late '80s. I flipped the coin and saw that it was a 1953. Holy cow! Has anyone else found old coins this way?
nice, few weeks ago i went to my local convenience store an there were a few pennies there on the counter an i could see one was a wheat, but when she counted out my change she rounded it up to the nickel, so i slid the nickel back an said "here i want my pennies an i want that one there, i collect those" pointing to the wheat, well she slid my nickel back and handed me the penny, i said thanks an walked out, in my car i checked the date, 1936
Well yesterday I bought some chips from a vending machine and I looked at the two quarters I got. One was a 2006-D South Dakota and the other was a 1969-D. Nice coins.
I once got back a 1999-S clad proof Delaware quarter from a convenience store in Lake Placid New York.
A buddy of mine's grandfather bought a cigarette machine back in the 70's and shortly thereafter passed away. Well, it sat in the family barn until cleaned it out last year. There were only a couple silver coins in it but we both just thought it was cool that no one touched them for that long... Oh, and another friend found a Barber dime downtown Ft Wayne in the crack of a sidewalk while metal detecting.. Now that was neat!
I have gotten almost all of my war nickles in change from a grocery store or a gas station. I believe i have 15 or so and never bought one lol only paid the price of a nickle which i believe is a pretty good deal!
