This article shows the proposed images for the 2015 & 2016 Presidential Dollar coins.

Personally, I really don't think any of the images is a great likeness of any of the Presidents in this group except the last image of Ford. They all seem to have something wrong with them in my opinion.

If I had to choose, I'd choose HT-01, DE-03, JFK-02 (these are all awful), LBJ-03 (also all awful), RN-03, and GF-04.

I think they should include Reagan...but it seems they have chosen not to.

They can't based on how the law for the series is written. The laws says that a President must be dead for 2 years before their coin is scheduled to be produced and that the series will stop once it hits the first living President. So, based on the current schedule...the Carter coin would be due to be released in July of 2016. Meaning, if he lives beyond July 2014 there will be no Carter coin and the series will end with Ford.

    At least, that's my understanding.

I wish Reagan was included as well. Since he's not I'm ending my set with JFK.

I think the law was vaguely written and I'd like them to clarify it. I just don't see that happening.

Every one of these coins is a "bust portrait" of some type and I just do not understand WHY there is even any type of selection process?

"Design by Committee" has produced some awfully ugly coins.

As for "when the series ends"? Who really cares since the program has been an absolute flop due to the inadequacies of the Government in withdrawing the paper dollar.

One definition of insanity is to continue to do the exact same thing while expecting different results and this appears to be the 4th time that the government has implemented a one dollar coin expecting the populace to embrace the coin and stop using the dollar bill.

I guess they are all insane?

Probably because a lot of the candidates don't even look like the people they're supposed to be honoring...

  8. Based on the images, I would say a few of the artists were "dancing with Molly." Let's have Dan Carr design the rest. Sales would dramatically increase. TC

I'd buy a Bill Clinton presidential dollar from Dan Carr. I think that'd be sweet.

The last presidential dollars I bought from the mint was a roll of Teddy Roosevelts.

I am sorry to see that we will not have coins with the Peanut Farmer or the Movie Actor.

    :)

The reality is that the Treasury Department was attempting to "recreate" the excitement folks had over the State Quarters Program which was fully supported by the Federal Reserve System. Banks could order boxes of specific States for specific release dates.

When the Presidential Dollars were released, the exact same scenario existed but since the Secretary of the Treasury wimped out and instead of eliminating the paper buck chose to go with not producing anything but collector versions of the Presidential Dollar, folks have simply lost interest. I know I have and I just cannot wait for the program to die and let the hypocritical Congress have their way.

The Presidential Dollar Program could have been GREAT if they would only have added verbage to the law creating these that eliminated the paper dollar. There is no "choosing" here since merchants will obviously "choose" to order 1,000 paper dollars over a hefty 1,000 coin box. Instead of subsidizing "collectors" with the Box Program that the US MKint had where 500 coin boxes could be ordered and the US Mint would ship at a loss, the Treasury should have offered reduced rate shipping to Merchants after eliminating the paper dollar. You see, its NOT the people that "dictate" what change they are given, its th4e MERCHANTS.

The United States of America is the ONLYT Industrialized Country in the WORLD that has been STUPID enough to try and get coins and bills of the same denomination circulating. Not once, not twice and not three times. But Four times.

It could have been so simple.
