I don't understand why CT-er's list Silver on eBay

There are not many buyers on cointalk. I have put coins for sale on here gotten no interest and posted on ebay and it sells for more. I keep trying but, Its kind of a waste of time listing stuff here.

there are no guarantee's here (been burnt a few times). people want to buy at bottom $ and sell at top$. better to sell to strangers than CT friends and ruin that.

In my opinion $17/oz. is a hilarious insult to an individual who wants to liquidate their Silver, when myself and others will meet them personally, paying minimally 5% above spot for circulated 90% Silver coinage when responding to Craigslist ads.
I regularly have buyers who travel 6-8 hours round trip to purchase $100-$400 Face "sight seen" quality 90% coinage at slightly less than "Grey Sheet" ask price.
I personally know that a volume seller on eBay can net a better price on eBay than they would receive locally, without all of the insults to intelligence about "junk silver".value. There is little travel involved in eBay selling, and I've found that the average eBay buyer more knowledgeable/informed than most credit.
My personal experience in posting on CT is that items offered will go unsold when offered at eBid or Craigslist known sales pricing, and exposure time is generally less than comparable venues.

I am always combing the for sale section and I can't believe the prices people are asking for bullion. The problem is people want to sell for ebay prices AND avoid the fees. Then they wonder why their stuff doesn't sell. If I am buying ebay versus CT, if the prices are the same, I will buy on ebay every time because of the buyer protection.

Yep, I always look at the sale section too. It's overpriced compared to ebay.

 

'Cause people would buy any c**p on ebay, people here are more knowledgeable and selective.

 

I still think people should try cointalk first as its free and no fees before putting it on ebay first. I don't bother with ebay and prefer buying it from forum members here or on other forums. Sellers however need to be realistic on the pricing as I've seen some bullion that cost more than a local store that I can drive to. However if cointalk sellers are willing to negotiate, then thats perfect.

 

17/oz is definitely very low as their are people lining up willing to pay melt for your silver here or even slightly under. Heck I've seen govt bullion sell for above melt.

I saw a member on another forum willing to pay 16.5x fv for 90%!! Thats above melt right there!

 

I look at the Sale/Want lists at least once a day. There's not a lot of change from day-to-day but can be from week-to-week. The folks I've bought from here have been friendly and, save one, the transactions have gone without a hitch. I don;t find meself looking for coins much on eBay any more - maybe once or twice a week at best unless I'm looking for something specific - coin or otherwise.

 

Send ANY coins to an ebay buyer in an envelope with a $0.49 stamp, and I all but guarantee you'll be refunding that buyer. Buyers are really getting smart about getting their items for free, and if an item is shipped with no tracking #, you are simply begging to give it away for free, PLUS lose your $0.49 for the stamp.

 

I haven't bought any silver on the forums here but I have bought a few coins. My 1864 L AU55 Indian I got for $200 I got here on the for sale forum. Contacted LostDutchman about his 1912 encased Wheat cent, he told me what he was going to be listing it on eBay for, then offered me a price of what he'd make after fees.

I know some of the stuff I've sold on here I've had a price on and someone made me an offer, and I accepted it. Sure we all want top dollar, but when someone offers a realistic offer, most people will accept it.

My friend Numismania, I have well over 2,000 transactions on eBay, and 100% Feedback. I appreciate your concern, but I know how to do it. One of the keys to selling low-end items is to keep the postage low too. I already buy discount postage for 70c on the dollar, so that helps

You actually have reinforced my argument; why sell bullion on eBay, where you need tracking, instead of here, where you don't? I have sold to 18 different members now, and never the first problem, and never the first complaint...

In fact, I emailed Peter last night with an idea for how to further increase sales.

i dont buy large amounts of silver, just a few silver dimes and quarters from people at school looking for quick cash to get cookies or whatever from the snack line, then i flip 'em to a guy in my geometry class who's anticipating silver to hit $100/oz in the next year (i think he's crazy, but he's willing to pay $25-$27/oz )

 

You dont know what your talking about. I send about 60 coins or more a week that way. I have had one person say they didnt get the coin, in the last 500 or so coins shipped.

 

I found it to be quite the opposite. I read threads on here all the time, where people have bought fake coins, unsearched rolls with fake coins. Damaged, cleaned or whizzed coins. What I see most on cointalk is bargain shoppers. They will buy anything if it appears to be a deal.

 

Exactly. I get emails and feedback all the time thanking me, for not gouging them 2.50 cents for shipping on a $6 coin.
