Guess it pays to clean the house once in a while Found this under a piece of furniture in my workroom. It must've come from the large mixed lot purchased at a Goldberg auction last year. I remember counting the envelopes several times, came up one less than expected but shrugged it off a mistake. Unlike most from that lot, this one has an attribution typed on the old paper envelope. I have not verified the reference as the comparable coins I've found on wildwinds and CNG cite SNG and others. ISLANDS off CARIA, Rhodos. I can see how one could lose one of these little guys, very nice by the way, but its still way bigger than the one you lost in the carpet awhile back.
Yeah, I'm missing a coin too. I've got to clean the house. It's in here somewhere. It's not even anything special or expensive, but it's my preciousssssssss. I don't own all that many coins, so I know exactly what I have at all times and it irks me to no end that one's gone missing.
It was in the envelope too, so it's not like it would have been hard to spot. Let's just say I'm never going to win any Good Housekeeping awards! Back to cleaning. Many more strata to excavate. I'm hoping to find a hoard.
neat! that's a something cool to find in the house! i've had a couple domestic archeology events, usually cull coins from when i was cleaning. there an unknown 4th century uncleaned coin under my back deck somewhere...never did find that one. last week a found a 1951 5 sen from japan in the clothes drier. need to check those pockets a little better!
That's a very sweet find, coin-Princess ... Ummm, last year I found a $50 dollar bill in my "Fancy Suit" pocket, but that obviously pales in comparison to your great find (congrats ... that must have been a great feeling, eh?) I like the good ol' Rhodes coins ... I have a very old version of this great design (it was one of my first ancients and is still one of my favourites) => 408-390 B.C.

While I'm happy for you guys who've been rediscovering your lost ancients, I'm a little jealous at the same time. I'm seriously considering misplacing a coin or two so I can have the pleasure of finding it again some time in the future. A few weeks ago while clearing my study/storeroom, I found a Neolithic step-shouldered adze from Vietnam which had gone missing 5 years before. Cool, but not quite as cool as an ancient coin. Another time, I found a Blondie CD which I thought I had lost. It was sitting under some other CDs. At least it was coin-shaped.
I know I have a very very nice Posthumous quadriga bronze on my garage floor somewhere and the other day I found a small LRB in my workvan footwell, which must have got stuck in my shoe? strange, but true.......
I have warned my wife that when we have our garage spring clearout, the floor sweepings are worth a few quid!
