I never used TarnX, but probably because I had a father who really liked a coin with it's surfaces untouched. I bought a morgan about 2 yrs ago and was all excited a 1901 S that was in XF to AU condition. I sent it into PCGS for grading and got it back "Surfaces Tooled". I was really unset about the whole thing. Dad had come for a visit and I showed him the slabbed coin. He took one look at it and said "you didn't see this?". Grin.... I'll never forget that moment. // Bud
If anything other than distilled water was within my family home. Dad would get a ear full from grandpa then my grandmother on mom side of the family would also read the coin cleaning riot act. Being a third generation coin collected I had regulations to follow since 1956. But worth each min . The family collection was hand down to me my mother family owned a semi small town bank in upstate New York from 1897-1974. That collection to my knowledge has never had any thing to change any of the coins touch cleaning wise.. My dad pass on Morgan fever to me,so I hate to hear about that 1901-S Morgan dollar .
