This is a PCGS 5 type holder but my question has to do with the Type-1 or T-1 and do you think it should have a PCGS 5.1 or a different type number? The reverse has the 'Copying Phohibted' so it has to be PCGS 5
In his book Conder only lists a PCGS 5. There is no 5.1 or 5.2, just the 5. The PCGS 5 isn't like the PCGS 6 which comes in two types - 6.1 and 6.2.
Thanks, I don't have his book. But would like to find one forsale. But since he lists a 6.1 and 6.2 because of the spelling of 'T' and 'Type' on the third line; I was wondering if on the type 5 might have a new unlisted type because of this difference on the forth line, which on PCGS 5 is blank.
I'm out of my league on slabs, but, looking at just the font and size of barcode, isn't it PCGS 5.4? http://www.sampleslabs.com/pcgs.html
Sorry that would be Cameron's web site for sample slabs. I am looking at PCGS Generations that Conder101 has out, and his book. The Slab Book If you search google on the PCGS Generations it will be ATS. (same for NGC) http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=222533 Oh well I went and got it for all to see.
I do understand that but I was hoping the conder101 would check in and give his lastest update since the book is about 10 years old and he has about twice and many companies today and many sub varieties for all the companies. Maybe in his master file he has seen this and has a comment on it. I can only use his lists on the forums and they agree with what you have said. Many types I am sure are not listed but a new type does show up now and again.
He's working on the second edition of his book, has been for years. Maybe after a few more he'll publish it.
Based on recent posts by him, I think it will be faster than a few years. Sent from my HTC6990LVW using Tapatalk
Were you around when he published the first book ? I was. I waited 6 years after he first started talking about it being published. I've been waiting on the 2nd edition for 3 or 4 so far. But hey, I hope you are right
I do not understand how you could make that statement since there are different labels within the Gen 5 Holder.
Sample slabs has 6 different 5.x types. I understand Conder's book has only the one type 5. Same as on his PCGS generations list he has put out. I am just hoping that this could be a new sub type 5 for his book. By the way this coin is for sale on ebay, it is just $310, out of my price range, but seems like a price to sell.
Acording to a 10 year old book? Does this mean that because the 2005 Redbook doesn't have a 2008 Rev or 07 Silver Eagle that the coin doesn't exist? Not hardly.
At the moment there is still only one variety of PCGS 5. The only way something like this would get a subvariety listing would be for the same reason the PCGS 6 did, if they reference the same kind of coin in more than one manner. If you can find a PCGS 5 that list the bicentennial as Type 1 or Type 2 and not T1 or T2 then I would consider a subvariety listing. (This would also go for Type 1 and 2 SLQ, 1913 Buffalos etc.) Cameron would list different subvarieties for the same slab type simply because it had a different coin in the holder. If I did that for production slabs then every generation would have dozens of subvarieties.
It's really cool that folks like Conder and Cameron recorded the history. If I'm thinking right, Condor helped Cam with much of the information used on Cam's site. It's also great that folks stepped in to keep his site alive. I think Jeremy took care of that. Please correct me if I'm wrong Conder.
OK Thanks, I will always keep a eye out for a holder that is different. I will keep looking for that Generations PCGS type 5, with the word 'TYPE' spelled out. I do alot of searching on ebay and maybe someday I will find it.
