Shipped package to a state; it's being delivered in another

Shipped a padded envelope to MO, checked out the tracking no. today and it's showing "out for delivery in KS". If any of you live in KS and receive couple of coins in the mail, take it as a late Xmas gift. Can't believe USPS can do that. I have the USPS receipt showing MO and MO zip. Now I have to refund the buyer and take a loss on the coins. Is there anything I can do or just call it a loss?

Kansas City crosses the state border. Is it possible that your shipment started in one post office but will be delivered to the other state? Based on proximity, I would think that could actually happen. Maybe. :)

In my experience, it will eventually find its way to the correct address.

I would wait and see ---- "Out For Delivery" does not always lead to "Delivered" and it just might end up back in the system and redirected to the correct location.

Best of luck for a good outcome :)

There's a good chance the mailman will know he's in KS and not MO.

I'm from MO. This happens to me quite a bit. Don't worry, it will get there.

Agreed. I'm sure it will get to where it's supposed to be.

It's not Kansas City, the package is "out for delivery" in Lawrence just west of Kansas City. The correct destination is a city near St. Louis, MO, which is about 200 miles East of Lawrence KS.

I have tracked a package all over the map before it reaches it's planned destination. I'll bet it gets there.

  11. Same here.. It'll eventually get there.

Had a purchased a coin a couple of weeks back. On Friday it was showing 'out for delivery', didn't think anything of it until I picked up the mail and it wasn't there. Checked the tracking and it said 'picked up by carrier...'!
The following morning SAT. It showed it delivered to another person, at another address and signed for. I MET the carrier at the box later SAT and he admitted he had scanned this as outgoing, then found a delivery pink card in his truck and scanned mine again thinking it was my package he delivered. The coin was in his batch to be delivered SAT, but the tracking had never been updated. // What a mess // Bud

You're really getting your money's worth when the package takes the scenic route like this.

It's actually an interesting thought. Is this more expensive or less? This one package seems to be taking the scenic route...but when you factor in the number of packages to be delivered and all the associated factors it might actually be more cost effective for a few packages to take longer routes.

    doug444 STAMPS and POSTCARDS too!

If it doesn't arrive, call KMCI-TV in Lawrence, Kansas, and offer them an exclusive story about, umm, incompetence.

I've had this happen before, usually around Christmas time. I'd recommend giving it a couple days for whatever computer sent it to the wrong place to correct the error.

And never, ever, involve yourself in the Salt Lake City Post Office. Absolute incompetence.

I also had one go out for delivery last week in a town ~150 miles from me. I gawked. But the next status update was reaching the next shipping center close to me.

I have once had a package that I bought and was out for delivery. When I got my mail, the package was not there; went online to check and tracking no said "delivery status not updated". Went to the post office and they had no idea about it, took my phone no. and said they will let me know, been 2 months and no call. Luckily it was not something expensive and the seller shipped a replacement order. Wonder what would have happened had it been something very expensive.

The deliveryperson will notice the error, and return the parcel to the office for shipment to the correct office . . . it will take a few extra days, but don't fret unless and until your tracking information says it has actually been delivered in the wrong state.

You have nothing to worry about. I have a client that lives in Wisconsin. When his shipments are out for delivery, it says that it's out for delivery in Minnesota. This happens all the time.

I have another client that lives in Virginia and the shipments show "out for delivery in North Carolina".

    It will get there......
