Looks like something the Royal Canadian Mint would issue, minus the colored Santa/Dinosaur. What's the damage on such a trinket?
I think if you go to their site (Casascius), you can enter the code across the coin and find out if the coin is still valued. If someone has already spent the assigned value it will show nothing. Otherwise it will show its worth. You may have already checked this out.
These are pretty neat... The hologram hides the code needed to redeem this bitcoin. You must destroy it to get to the code... So as long as the hologram is intact... So is the bitcoin... (At least that's the working theory) The small code on the front allows you to check the "balance" of the bitcoin. These things sell for stupid money on eBay.
Yep. This one is good... You can check it out. Let's just say I found this in a dealers "junk" box. NO IDEA how it got there...
That's pretty awesome. That's one of the original coins and it is indeed still fully unredeemed, one heck of a find. https://blockchain.info/address/13CEMJaTGuw4Nazq2iBSurmMgTrPc21aM9 the full public address for verifying it, using the first 8 to search doesn't usually work anymore now that the block chain has grown so large.
You'll find a closed eBay listing here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111243507208 Mine has the error as well.
Very cool find. I think BitCoins are trading around $550 these days. According to what I've read, you can trace that coin back to the original owner. I'll bet it was owned by a Mr. Dimmick who used to work at the Bitcoin mint! (sarcasm)
