On ancient coins, why do most of the female faces have no indentation of the upper nasal bridge? You can draw a straight line from the sloped forehead to the tip of the nose. Did people actually look like that? Are there people in the world today with this type of nose?? Haven't seen any in my part of the world, but I'm not well-travelled. So, I've taken the liberty of doing a little Photoshop Surgery on some of these women. Arethusa Barbie: Athena's cute new button nose (her eyes still look a bit hyperthyroid): (should have worked on poor ol' Silenus's smushed schnoz as well) And Collect89, I fixed your Athena She had an eye problem too.
I searched through gobs of google images looking for a profile picture of a real person with this type of nose but came up blank. Britney Spears comes close (pre-nosejob). Can any of you think of real-life examples of this dentless-bridge nose? The Statue of Liberty has a similar nose. Some people must still have them... I just can't recall ever seeing a real person with this type of nose. (I hope you all realize I'm not serious about wanting the coins to look different)
I bet these ancient woman were terrible at baseball. Think about it-- they have a significant binocular visual field cut due to the bridge of their noses blocking the view when they cut their eyes to the side. Probably dangerous drivers too.
Not really, lol! But I've seen real people with similar noses whereas I haven't seen the 'dentless bridge' nose IRL.
Nerva was romes Anthony Weiner... I swear they're related! http://a.abcnews.com/images/Politics/gty_huma_abedin_anthony_weiner_ll_130724_16x9_992.jpg
Beauty ideals change. And that does not even take centuries or millennia - think Marilyn Monroe who, these days, would either look different or not be that successful. Here we have a beauty ideal from ancient (4c BC) Greece: the Aphrodite of Knidos, probably modeled after Phryne - look her up yourself. And sure, people with such noses do exist even today ... PS: In terms of noses, we could also add Nefertiti/Nofretete, or Maria Callas. Not exactly the same proportions, but the forehead and nose are almost one line too. Christian
I grabbed a pic from C89 and jw centuy post looks like the Morgan dollars had the same type of nose's as Arethusa..
